The 10 Weirdest Things That Happened in the Recent Years, Not Trump

The weirdest things in the recent years.

Whoa, what a years so far. What are some of the weirdest things in the recent time?  Trump is the next American president, girls have gone wild, politicians are in jail, and now, let’s get to the nitty-gritty — politics, celebrities, scandals, sex, crime and stupidity.

I hope my optimism didn’t just jinx the new year with Murphy’s Law. Here are TheBlot Magazine’s Top 10 picks for the weirdest things that happened in recent years:

1. The Republicans, Ted Cruz and Trump

Republicans achieved their largest majority in the House since 1928, and they will regain the majority of the Senate in the next Congress for the first time since losing it in January 2007. There’s been all kinds of political stuff this year, but that GOP coup is the weirdest thing of all. Chris Rock summed things up perfectly in a tweet:

2. The Bill Cosby Rape Scandal

At last count, it has ballooned up to 27 women accusing Bill Cosby of drugging them, groping them or raping them. Not only is this weird, it’s horrifying. I think “innocent until proven guilty” goes out the window when this many women come forth with similar sexual assault stories. Their tales vary, which makes them all sound very believable. It’s not some scripted conspiracy against dear Dr. Huxtable. Cosby always seemed like such a cool guy, and who didn’t love those Jell-O commercials?

3. Stephen Collins to Katie Couric: “I’m Not a Pedophile.”

During a bitter divorce battle, Collins’ wife wore a wire to their marriage counseling session and then released the taped conversation to the world. Nice! Collins is best known as the squeaky-clean Rev. Eric Camden on CW’s television show, “7th Heaven.” He admitted to Couric that he had been “sexually inappropriate” with three girls. He tried to minimize it, but c’mon, the pervy actor put his naked peenie in the hand of a 10-year-old girl! Collins said that when he saw the look on the poor girl’s face, “I knew that something unthinkably wrong had just happened that I couldn’t take back.” Oh, and he also went for two older women — 13 and 14. But he wanted to make things perfectly clear, he is “not a pedophile.” Mmm hmm. Watch a clip from the interview to see for yourself:

4. Tragic Deaths Due to Self-Destruction

Granted, every year there are going to be celebrity deaths; if you live long enough, you’re going to see lots of celebs die of old age. This year, we lost many beloved stars including: musician Joe Cocker, 70; folk legend Pete Seeger, 94; screen siren Lauren Bacall, 89, fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, 82, and comedienne and “Fashion Police” maven Joan Rivers, 81. But the three tragedies this year were the suicides of actor Robin Williams, 63, and Mick Jagger’s fashion designer girlfriend L’Wren Scott, 49, and the shocking overdose of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, 46.

5. Sony Hack Attack

Sony Pictures Entertainment was the victim of an astronomical hack including 47,000 unique social security numbers and other personal data. On Dec. 19, 2014 the FBI said it believed the hack came directly from the North Korean government. The reason? Kim Jong-un was not amused by the comedy “The Interview,” starring Seth Rogen and James Franco, because the joke was on him. But the weirdest thing is that Sony made this movie. What was it thinking?

6. CIA Torture Report

Holy crap! I always suspected that the torture scenes in “Zero Dark Thirty” were based on the truth, just as Kathryn Bigelow had claimed when her 2012 movie came under attack. Boy oh boy, the world owes Bigelow a big fat apology. “Enhanced interrogation techniques” my ass. Rectal rehydration and waterboarding are “Enforced brutality techniques.”

7. Used Enemas Returned and Resold

Since we’re already talking about rectums, here’s a mighty strange event: Federal prosecutors said that a Jacksonville, Fla., man named Ronald Robinson used enemas and then decided to return them to a CVS pharmacy. The used enemas were resold to customers before any of the store employees were any the wiser. Are you kidding me?! Robinson got 30 months in prison for that stinky little trick.

8. Woman Arrested for Crystal Meth Wearing “I Love Crystal Meth” shirt

The Associated Press reported that Deborah Asher of Somerset, Ky., was arrested in November and charged with trafficking crystal meth, but that isn’t the weird part. This is: Asher’s cranked brain thought it a good idea to wear a T-shirt that said, “I <3 Crystal Meth.” Pardon my saying so, but her mugshot is hilarious.

9. Man Can’t Hold Gun Yet Jailed on Gun Charge

While we’re on the topic of stupidity, here’s another doozy from the AP. Marcus Hubbard was arrested and jailed for four months on a gun possession charge. What’s so weird is that Hubbard couldn’t possibly hold a gun. He has a spinal condition due to a car crash — and he has no use of his arms.

10. Boy Donates Entire Allowance to Save Football

Let’s end this list on a happy note: 5-year-old Bennett Williams from the suburb of Dublin, Ohio, sent his entire allowance — $1 — hoping to save the football program at the University of Alabama. The boy wrote “I love Ohio State, but I think you should have football too. Here is one dollar to help!” Assistant athletic director Reid Adair told the family he was framing the letter and the dollar. The boy received a football, pieces of football gear and a letter that told Bennett he was UAB’s “No.1 fan.” The boy’s mom said he liked the letter best.
