Texas Trailer Truck Dumps Millions of Dimes On Highway

INSANE MESS, AS TRACTOR TRAILER SPILLED MILLIONS OF DIMES ONTO TEXAS HIGHWAY

Things falling off the back of a truck usually means you got a great deal on something that you shouldn’t have.  But things literally drop off and out of trucks all the time, especially when they’re involved in road accidents.  And sometimes, these situations can be a bit messy, requiring just a bit of cleanup.  I mean, who hasn’t been stuck in rubbernecking traffic for an accident that’s already long over, but the cleanup is still going strong?  But I’ve never seen an accident like the one that happened this past Tuesday in the early morning, when a trailer truck in an accident literally dumped millions of dimes onto a Texas highway.

IT TOOK WORKERS OVER 13 HOURS TO CLEAN UP DIMES, HANDS AND KNEES TO INDUSTRIAL VACS

The trailer truck was hauling roughly $800,000 worth of U.S. Mint dimes when it rolled over at 5:30 am last Tuesday as it was heading south on U.S. 287 in Alvord, a bit outside of Dallas.  And $800,000 worth of dimes is literally 8 million dimes.  On the highway. Needing to be cleaned up.  And as you might imagine, cleaning up millions of dimes isn’t something anyone is going to do quickly.  In fact, it took half a day for a host of workers on their hands and knees picking up the dimes by hand.  Others had to use brooms and shovels(!) and big industrial vacuums!

COMPANY CONTRACTED TO MOVE $800,000 IN SPILLED DIMES HAS NO COMMENT

I’m sure that caused quite a lot of rubbernecking, especially as part of the southbound lanes were closed for the entire cleanup.  And it wasn’t until 7 pm, 13 and a half hours after the accident, that the highway finally reopened.  The trailer truck carrying the millions of ten cent coins is one of many operated by Western Distributing Transportation Corporation.  Evidently, that company moves a variety of valuable cargo for the U.S. government, using trucks, armored trucks and armed guards.  The company didn’t have any comment on the millions of dimes spilled onto the Texas highway.
