BRITISH MAN STUNNED TO DISCOVER FAMILY KEEPSAKE TEA POT IS RARE CHINESE ANTIQUE

So that’s pretty rare, indeed.  Sure, this teapot had been in the man’s family for several generations.  But that doesn’t necessarily mean much.  Well, except this time.  The owner has chosen to remain anonymous and I don’t blame him.  So how did the art expert make the amazing recognition?  Well, the tea pot has a production stamp which dates the piece in relation to the Chinese emperor, Qianlong.  Experts thought that the lovely little tea pot would sell somewhere in the thousands.  But an international bidding war pumped the price to well over a million.

INTERNATIONAL BIDDING WAR OVER TEA POT DRIVES SELLING PRICE TWO DECIMALS BEYOND EXPECTATIONS

The bidding war lasted all of ten minutes.  A total of ten possible buyers made a number of bids.  At one point, one of them jumped the price by 100,000 pounds in an attempt to scare off the competition.  The stamp on the piece shows that someone crafted the tea pot somewhere between the years 1735 and 1796.  Those were the years of the Emperor Qianlong’s reign.  The lid sports a peach decoration.  In Imperial China, that represented immortality and unity.  Qianlong was the 6th Emperor from the Qing Dynasty.  And his name clearly is still immortal today.
