Swimsuits are Disposable, Reasons to Replace Yours Now

WHY BUY A NEW SWIMSUIT EVERY YEAR? UMMMM CUZ

New swimsuit styles come out every year, and every year I want to buy a new one. But do I ever go swimming? No. Do I live near a beach? No. So why am I spending hundreds of dollars a year on bathing suits? Cuz.  The swimsuits industry is completely genius because they get me to buy something new every year that I absolutely don’t need. They’re disposable! I go swimming maybe three times a year, but because I wish I went more they make me believe that I might go more if I only had the right suit. And of course, they have the right suit.  Those are silly reasons.

LIFESTYLE FANTASY GIVES US REASONS TO BUY PRODUCTS, LIKE SWIMSUITS

This is a great example of a product standing in for a life style. If you want the lifestyle where you are at the beach every day, surfing in the ocean, or lazing by a pool, then you will outfit your life with the things one needs in order to live that life. It doesn’t matter that that is, in fact, NOT your life, nor do you plan on making it your life anytime soon. BUT STILL, you want it, in a fantasy sort of way, so you shall have it – or at least the makings of it.

IMPULSE BUYING IS PROGRAMMED INTO US ALL, DISPOSABLE CONSUMERS

I have a great straw hat I never wear, an expensive high-wasted two-piece that sits in a drawer, leather sandals gathering dust, and a micro-fiber towel I think I’ve lost. If you were to look at all these items put together you would think: Wow! This person lives such a luxurious beach life! And you would be wrong.

GEORGE CARLIN HAD SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT  STUFF TO PUT STUFF IN

I live in a city that has a beach, but it’s a beach that is so far away I will absolutely never go. I’m busy all the time so I will never get to go on a beach vacation again. And I don’t like my legs so much I don’t own a pair of shorts anymore.  AND YET. I have two new one-piece swimsuits on their way in the mail. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to wear them before they don’t fit me anymore because I’m old and have a thousand kids.  Then they’ll really be disposable.  And I’ll have plenty of reasons to toss them.
