Autumn will officially start Sept. 23, so if you are still trying to hold on to the summer trends, it is time to start thinking about how to look sharp — from head to toe — for the upcoming season that many consider their favorite one of all.

Fall is that time of the year when some days could be hot or some a little colder, so it is the perfect time to mix summer and winter pieces. Best of all? You can efficiently play with several looks in the same day, especially if you are transitioning from work to an early night event; in another words, it is also the season of layers.

Fashion and style has so much available during fall: coats, jackets or capes, dresses, mini dresses, skirts, pants, shorts … name it, and you can wear it in fall. But if your budget is low, why not look into your closet to find perfect pieces from past seasons that, with great and simple styling, could be revamped for another fashion rounds.

As always, the key is quality — it is always wiser to spend a little more on a classic jacket than to blindly follow the catwalk/magazine trends that come and go as fast as tulle gone wild in the wind like the car wash skirts trend. I mean, really?

SHORTS & TIGHTS

You are very wrong if you believe that shorts only belong in summer. Pair them with tights or leggings and loafers.

DRESS

The right summer-looking dress can make you look just super-cool during fall. And with the right shoes and blazer, you couldn’t possibly look more hip.

CARDIGANS

There are so many styles of cardigans — from coat-like to cropped to knit to boyfriend — to choose from, but I will stick to the simple cotton ones because they are lighter and give you a certain unstudied cool look. Perfect over a dress or even light shorts. Also, oversize fashionable sweaters over pants are the epitome of comfort, and if worn with stilettos, sandals or boots, it becomes a very elegant ensemble.

SCARVES

Definitely this is the magical accessory to complement a simple look. Wear it alone, in two, solid color, colorful, prints, whatever style suits you better.

SOCKS & SANDALS

Honestly, it was hard for me like to this “trend,” but eventually it won me over, especially if worn with long skirts.

TENNIS SHOES

Yes, I know, we can’t wait to wear boots, but nobody can resist the luxurious tennis shoes by Markus Lupfer. They are the perfect transition from summer to fall!

MINI DRESS

It is just a reminder that if you are going to wear a mini dress (or a shirt dress) during fall, the best look for it is with thigh highs. This Rachel Zoe Fall 2015 black-and-white buttoned gold mini dress is a perfect example.

CLUTCH

Well, if the idea is to mix summer and fall, what better clutch could sum it up? Kate Spade indeed has the answer.

LEATHER JACKET

A perfect edgy piece that has the power to immediately elevate any summer look. It looks very-cool chic with maxi dresses or jeans and a plain shirt.
