Spurs Nail Two Literally Huge 2026 NBA Draft Picks

THE SAN ANTONIO SPURS LITERALLY NAILED THEIR 2026 NBA DRAFT PICKS IN HUGE FASHION

It’s been a pretty tumultuous end of season as a San Antonio Spurs fan.  Being a New Yorker has been pretty awkward as a Spurs fan, I gotta say.  Especially one who had to abstain from wearing any Spurs gear going in to work in Manhattan after all that unpleasantness.  Well, until yesterday, that is.  The First Round of the 2026 NBA Draft Day, no less.  Sure, the hat is innocuous and a subtle dark green.  But I represented, hopeful that the end of the day would bring even more of that enthusiastic hope.  And boy, my wife was prescient when she gave me not one but TWO Spurs hats for Father’s Day.  Because the Spurs totally, absolutely nailed not one but TWO huge draft picks.

KENNY SMITH NEEDS A HAT TO EAT AFTER COMMENTS SECONDS BEFORE SPURS PICKED AT #20

I even watched their first pick at #20, which turned out to be Jayden Quaintance, who somehow slipped to the Spurs after 19 other teams’ picks were selected.  The best part of watching it live, since Jayden didn’t attend the draft in person, was hearing Kenny Smith say how the Spurs needed to select another guard to bolster their second unit, literally seconds before the Commissioner announced the pick.  Sorry Kenny, your short man lenses still aren’t helping you make any sense at all.  Because needing playable front court help was clearly the priority after Wemby lost two steps from all the minutes he played with little help down low.

QUAINTANCE AND REED COULD BE TOP TIER DEFENSIVE STOPPERS, PLUS WEMBY, FOR YEARS

And then boy did Kenny get even more wrong when the Spurs traded their #36 pick along with 2 future second rounders to move up to #26 and select another big man, Tarris Reed, Jr.  The Spurs just got a lot bigger for years to come.  Really, they nailed this draft to such a degree that I’m shocked, despite the Spurs long history of selecting NBA stars that the rest of the league passed over.  Sure, Quaintance had a knee injury which gives GMs butterflies.  But even if he doesn’t suit up until February, Spurs fans know that his cleaned up knee will be good to go.  And he’s a BEAST.  As for Reed, I’m at a loss how someone who averaged 19.5 points, 13.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in March’s Madness slipped to #26.

Both play defense.  Both are huge, mobile big men.  They’re going to play with Wembanyama, Castle, harper and Vassell.  Who is going to score a ton of points against that in the playoffs next year?
