NEW JERSEY FACES LAWSUIT FROM SMITH & WESSON FOR GUN ADS SUBPOENAS
So guns are controversial. That’s an easy statement to make without argument. Well, unless you are a gun lover (or nut), who have one, and totally exclusive, idea on guns. And when I say gun nuts, I don’t mean NRA members. If you didn’t already know, most NRA members actually support more gun regulations! Crazy, right? But still, guns are controversial. So much so, that gun companies are now getting in on the hyper-crazy action. Smith & Wesson, and we’ve all heard of them, is suing the state of New Jersey because they say the state is too anti-gun. This is the kind of thing straight off the Qanon press, right?

IS NEW JERSEY AGAINST THE 2ND AMENDMENT, OR LOOKING TO BUST DECADES OF FALSE ADVERTISEMENT?
So Smith & Wesson went to federal court to file their lawsuit this week. While they can certainly do that, what’s really going on here? Well, Smith & Wesson must have figured their gun sales are going to suffer because of New Jersey policies. Namely, the recent efforts on the NJ Attorney General, Gurbir Grewal. Besides, having an amazing Harry Potter character name, Grewal has been working hard, looking at gun companies. Of late, he’s been reviewing literally decades of gun company ads, looking for legal grounds to challenge the right to bear arms.

SMITH & WESSON REALLY, REALLY WANTS TO STOP SUBPOENAS, PLAY THE VICTIM CARD
But Smith & Wesson really didn’t react well when Grewal filed some subpoenas in October, looking for instances of fraudulent advertising. If one had to guess, there may be a there, there. Because Smith & Wesson really, really doesn’t want to go there. Their federal lawsuit aims to block the subpoenas. But even more, they want a ruling that says the subpoenas themselves are unconstitutional! So I can’t tell if this is a publicity stunt for, well, Trump fans. Or if this is a totally desperate move to prevent precedent. You know, that gun companies have lied to sell their products. So this is sure to be interesting, no matter what.
