Singapore Restaurant Already Serving Chicken Frankenmeat

SINGAPORE RESTAURANT IS THE FIRST EVER TO OFFER LAB GROWN, CHICKEN FRANKENMEAT

So have you heard of Frankenmeat?  No?  Well, it’s “meat.”  It just doesn’t come from a naturally grown animal.  So yes, that means that this stuff grows in a lab.  It’s really, really likely that the time will come that only a select few people the world over will be able to afford “real” meat.  Until now, Frankenmeat has just been an idea.  But recently, Singapore approved the production of “cultured chicken.”  So naturally, chicken Frankenmeat arrived almost immediately.  A local Singapore restaurant is about to serve it up.

So no, we don’t know which restaurant (yet).  But we do know that a startup with the name Eat Just is already producing this yet to be tasted chicken Frankenmeat.  I should also note that Eat Just already makes something they call Egg Just.  Yes, it’s a Frankenegg.  They make it from mung beans.  So we have to acklowledge, Frankenegg came before Chicken Frankenmeat.  Just saying.  So what about this grown in a lab chicken meat?  How do they make it?  Well, it’s all in the details, as they say.

GROWN IN VATS, CHICKEN FRANKENMEAT IS FINALLY COST EFFECTIVE, HOPEFULLY CRAZY CHEAP SOON

Scientists working for Eat Just begin with biopsies from the muscle cells of living chickens.  Ok, that’s not too complicated.  But then they supply those biopsy cell masses with plant-based nutrients.  You know, to grow.  They do this in a 300-gallon “bioreactor,” which evidently helps the tissue masses grow.  Well, “grow,” in a manner of speaking.  But this process has been in development for time now.  Just over a year ago, chicken Frankenmeat cost Eat Just about $50 per nugget.  That’s an expensive undead meal.  But in a short time, they totally refined their process.  Now, Frankenmeat will cost about the same as the real thing.  So who knows?  In another year, real/faux chicken could cost a lot less.
