PROFESSIONAL EXORCIST FIRED BY CATHOLIC CHURCH FOR SAYING UFO SIGHTINGS ARE THE WORK OF DEMONS
I vaguely remember seeing a headline a while ago about an exorcist who was literally working for the Catholic Church who said that most UFO sightings are the work of demons. I shook my head, didn’t click anywhere near the bait, and moved on. But I did think about it, if briefly. I just couldn’t figure out why an exorcist would be weighing in about possible alien life and relate it to demons, possession, and by default the devil. But I suppose he may have been saying the “sightings” themselves were the work of demons, and weren’t real, to distract the faithful from worshipping God. Again, shrug. But guess who didn’t shrug? The Catholic Church, because they totally just fired this erstwhile exorcist.

My first thought was that this trickled down from the Vatican, if not the Pope himself. You know, because it’s beneath the dignity of the Church to engage in such public nonsense. But that seems not to be the case. Or, at least, not the stated case. Because it was Cardinal Robert McElroy, the current archbishop of Washington, DC, who fired the exorcist, one Monseigneur Stephen Rossetti. Rossetti is a priest out of the Diocese of Syracuse. But besides being the former exorcist for the Catholic Church, he’s also a psychologist who has 153,000 followers on Instagram. That’s right, the good Monseigneur is quite active on social media.

That clearly didn’t help his exorcist professional status, as in one Facebook video (yes, Facebook too!) he said that demons “like to hide” and that his personal belief was that “many if not most” UFO sightings are demonic in nature. Pun intended, naturally. But Archbishop McElroy pulled the plug, saying that Rossetti’s posts and personal statements “gravely undermine the Church’s very precise teaching on the devil, demons and exorcism.” Notably, in 2023 Rossetti also told the Associated Press that the public’s appetite for exorcism and demonic possession was growing. He then fed that appetite with books, a podcast and deliverance sessions every night, online(!).
As for alien life? The Vatican has yet to take an official stance. That means we could be sending out missionaries to the stars someday. If, that is, aliens aren’t already Saved.
