7-Year-Old in Klan Costume Sparks Outrage

Terrible costumes made the rounds on the Internet this year. The parade of Jolson-like blackface and costumes related to catastrophic events caused the predictable amount of outrage on the Internet and were dealt with swiftly.

This woman seemingly had her life ripped apart for dressing like a Boston Marathon bombing victim.

Blackface was the offensive costume of choice for white trash and “Dancing With the Stars” cast members who should have known better.

As we mothball our zombie makeup and fake blood for yet another year, we are alerted to the presence of one late entrant into the category of offensive costume. Despite its distastefulness, what makes it truly offensive and noteworthy is that it was modeled by a 7-year-old.

Jessica Black dressed her son as a member of the Ku Klux Klan on Halloween. He was understandably greeted with negative reactions as he made his rounds trick-or-treating in their small town.

A parade of media outlets descended upon the sleepy town of Craigsville, Va., where Jessica and her son make their home. The young mother obliged each one with an interview in which she espoused the positive attributes of the Klan and bemoaned the mixing of races, religions and homosexuality.

In a televised interview she said, “It’s supposed to be white with white. Black with black. Man with woman and all of that. That’s what the KKK stands for.”

Apparently the Blacks have a longstanding tradition of Halloween-fueled hatred. For generations, these gentle mountain folk have made a habit of dressing their progeny in Klan robes. The brother of young Mother Black dressed as a Klansman in kindergarten, and then again when he was 13.

She claims her son was insistent on wanting to dress as a Klansman on Halloween, upholding a proud family tradition, and was adamant that she sew him the costume. Though she warned him that he would likely face scrutiny, he remained insistent. As the mother of a headstrong 7-year-old, she was simply indulging his whim as a willing participant.

Author’s note: Sometimes it’s hard to believe that people aren’t just f*cking with you for the sake of f*cking with you.

Seven-year-olds are just not known for being spiteful and hate filled. They are, however, known for being incredibly poor decision makers and curators of bad taste. There was simply no way for young Jackson Black to have known that the world’s crappiest ghost costume would set off this kind of backlash. He likely only knew that he was pleasing his mother.

She used him as a pawn. From the uproar that ensued, she was given a platform from which to dispense her particular brand of bigoted crazy to anyone who would listen as banjo music poured forth from her stupid, stupid mouth.

Craigsville is nestled somewhere in the foothills of Applachia.  The town itself has a population of less than a thousand people and is located about an hour west of the city of Charlottesville, where the University of Virginia is located. It is largely civilized despite what the headline-grabbing actions of its most foolish resident may have you believe.

By virtue of proximity to Black, the entire town of Craigsville has unwittingly been cast as extras in the world’s most racist “Hee Haw” skit, and they are none too happy about it.

“We definitely want them to understand we don’t want this type of thing in our town. In any way, shape or form,” Mayor Richard Fox told a local ABC affiliate. “To my knowledge, there’s no active Ku Klux Klan in the town of Craigsville. And we do not want any active Ku Klux Klan in the town of Craigsville.”

With the ensuing parade of media outlets descending upon the town, the mayor of Craigsville has made numerous statements saying that the residents unequivocally do not support Black and that her neighbors were seemingly horrified and surprised by her actions and statements.

Though Black insists the Klan has a presence in her town — she claims they raise money for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital every year — the Southern Poverty Law center, which tasks itself with maintaining a list of communities where the Ku Klux Klan has a presence, does not include Craigsville.
