BREAKING SELFIE ADDICTION CAUSES VISCOUS SNAKE ATTACK

ADDICTED TO SELFIES

It might not yet be listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) or the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD), but rest assured, selfie-taking will soon be included. Nowhere has this epidemic become more problematic than in India. While the country may boast the world record holder for selfies, it also has the highest number of fatalities associated with people trying to snap a quick photo. More often than not, the incident involves a train. However, in this case, a 37-year-old tempted the fates with a snake selfie. And it was caught on tape! See how selfie addiction caused a viscous snake attack below.

ELEVEN FOOT PYTHON LIVES AT SCHOOL

Officials from the forestry department responded to the call of a venomous snake at a hotel in Mount Abu. When they arrived, the animal keepers discovered that their target was, in fact, an 11-foot-long, non-venomous python. The snake had lived on the grounds of a nearby school for years, but after attacking a hotel maintenance worker, management decided the reptile had to pack its bags. Wildlife officials quickly captured the snake and began to remove it from the premises in northwestern India.

As they left the grounds, a group of hotel employees decided to join the wildlife officials in a photo to commemorate the excitement. Apparently, someone suggested posting the video to the hotel’s website would cause more travelers to stay there. While the logic behind that suggestion is questionable, so were the actions of one of the hotel employees. The unnamed 37-year-old decided to snap a quick selfie of himself and the python during the group photo. Being camera shy and sick of smiling, the snake lunged at the man in the pink shirt.

Reports indicate that the snake bit the man, resulting in blood loss. Other accounts note that the man only received cuts and bruises. In either case, the man’s pride took a beating as his stupidity has amused the internets. One would hope such a narrow escape would discourage people from attempting snake selfies. However, undoubtedly others are already plotting their next snap with a serpent.
