Seatchat is the Unintentional Tinder for Airline Passengers

BOEING DREAMLINER TURNED INTO LUXURY TINDER ACCOUNT

Finding a Tinder date at 30,000 feet in the air is hard to do.  Luckily for your Qantas has made this easier for Australians. We should note that they didn’t intend to create a dating application when they unveiled Seatchat. Qantas recently unveiled the Boeing Dreamliner that’s been added to its fleet of impressive aircraft. It comes with a bunch of upgrades: larger seats and impressive, large windows, and fewer greenhouse emissions than it’s predecessors, there’s a feature that’s become far more impressive and can revolutionize the in-flight dating appetite. It’s called Seatchat.

NOT NEW, BUT NEW APPLICATION OF CHAT APP

The application has been around on Boeing labeled Qantas luxury planes for a few years now. It’s surprising for this to be the first time a story has been released about couples who’ve met on this unofficial dating app. The feature, which is part of the computer built into the back of a headrest, allows you to message anyone around the plane as long as you know their seat number.

SEATCHAT DOWNSIDE, QANTAS SETS PEOPLE UP FOR REJECTION

But it does come with a downside, as Qantas rolls out Seatchat as a regular feature on all flights, there’s added pressure to look good on a flight. I rarely look good, nor do I want to try to for a damn flight. There’s additional risk of being disappointed when no one has messaged you at all on Seatchat. Instead, an emoji tumbleweed rolls across the screen, over and over again. It’s akin to when you don’t use Tinder for a week and when you finally do you expect there to be a laundry list of messages from attractive people around the town. But you’ve got no matches and no new messages and your self-esteem comes crashing down like Tom Hank’s plane in that movie where Wilson is his best friend.

I absolutely despise airports and flying but with the unexpected expansion of my potential dating pool, just might be worth an extra business trip or two.  Let’s expense this date.
