Next Season of Whose Line is it Anyway To Be Its Last

AFTER 3 DECADES, WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY SEASON 2023 WILL BE ITS LAST

Well, in some sad news, I just heard that the next season of Whose Line is it Anyway is to be its last, ever.  That show was a lot of fun!  Well, it still is, I suppose.  And then I think, wait a minute, Whose Line is it Anyway is STILL on the air?  Honestly, I had no idea!  I haven’t watched an episode in at least 6 or 7 years now.  And the episode that I watched was an old one from years before.  Now, I can’t help wondering just how much quality improv comedy I’ve missed.  Almost 10 years’ worth!

WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY NOW A GENERATIONAL STAPLE FOR COMEDY IMPROV

Improv of any kind is really hard.  And comedy improv is one of the hardest to master.  But Whose Line is it Anyway almost always presented us with moments that were gold.  The show was so good -I mean, has been so good- that many crossover stars that made it to SNL bulked up their improv muscles there.  But as shocked as I am to hear that the show is still on for one more season, why is it getting cancelled now?  The news came out from Colin Mochrie, who has been a long-time regular who regularly left me in stitches.  Colin Tweeted (a verb that may soon be in the past) that the next season to be shot in January will be its last.  But why?

WITH CW SHAKEUP RATTLING WHOSE LINE OFF THE AIR, WILL ANOTHER NETWORK STEP UP?

The show has to be seriously cheap to produce and with Mochrie, Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady, and host Aisha Tyler, it’s still got strong comedic legs.  These guys have a collective experience on the show that’s more than 100 years!  Which means they’re good, and will always be good.  The show started in England and came over to ABC in the 1990’s. Then the CW revived it in 2013.  But a recent shakeup at the CW has changed the game, meaning no more Whose Line is it Anyway.  I must say I’m happy but sad.  Happy there’s a LOT of Whose Line I haven’t seen, and sad that after 2023, that truly will be the end.

Unless, say, another network decides to pick up a proven winner?  Anyone?
