DAYTONA BEACH’S SAND BLASTER ROLLER COASTER DERAILS IN HORRIFIC SCENE
Two weeks ago, a roller coaster in Daytona Beach derailed in what seems to be a horror story. Imagine being on this ride! You think you’re about to have some fun. But then reality sets in as the roller coaster derails, throwing 2 people 34 feet to the ground.
Those two and 7 others ended up in the hospital. Two of those remain in the hospital today. But their conditions are still unknown. The roller coaster’s name is the Sand Blaster. But it is about 40 years old, according to local media. So the scene sounds like something out of a nightmare. Don’t these things have to pass inspection? The stakes are high. Children ride these things.

40-YEAR-OLD ROLLER SAND BLASTER HAD SOME MAJOR PROBLEMS
After the Sand Blaster derailed it became stuck and stalled. The Daytona Beach Fire Department rescued 10 people stranded in the stalled roller coaster. Some of the cars were literally dangling after the derailment. Some of the people were hanging upside down.
The Sand Blaster first opened in 2013 after it was purchased and moved from a closed down amusement park in Delaware. But reports from just a month ago detailed a number of deficiencies in the roller coaster. They included damaged fencing and handrails, unsecured roller coaster cars, bracings missing, electrical problems and excessive corrosion.

SAND BLASTER PASSED INSPECTION HOURS BEFORE TRAGEDY, HOW?
The Florida Department of Agriculture said that the owners had corrected all those problems. State inspectors also said that inspectors cleared the roller coaster just hours before the derailment. It passed inspection. So that seems suspicious, given what happened.
