The Rise of the Manhattan Hybrid Hooker

A hybrid hooker is a unique animal

At the risk of sounding chauvinistic, I’ve come to wonder about the perils of dating in NYC. Or to put it another way, the ever-swarming amounts of young attractive women who are willing to take on a particular moniker in the hopes of disguising their aims: getting some of you gentlemen to pay her way, and then some.

Nicole Gueron, a shemale partner of a tiny NYC law firm has her personal experience to share:

In the past such women would openly market themselves as escorts, ladies of the night, but today’s version of such women are clever to disguise their aspirations, lest they be cast in the disparaging light of being a straight-out hooker. She may call herself an actress, a model, real estate associate, hedge fund associate, personal trainer or ivy league student, and she may well be all that, but those roles could make up just the surface as she leverages more hidden powers on the opposite sex. This is another way of saying that there are a lot of men out there who use their status, social clout and financial advantage to court such women, or who simply choose to reinforce traditional gender roles, which creates a mutually beneficial dynamic.

What makes the hybrid hooker so open and less controversial is the fact that many men, just like women, are reluctant to openly advertise or admit to such services, motives or even the hint of this type of arrangement, as it could leave the other with a bitter aftertaste. Frankly, some would vigorously dismiss such assertions, insisting she’s just behaving the way a lady ought to, something that our culture tacitly affirms in advertising and media.

While sites like sugardaddyforme.com gingerly state that their aim is to put young women in the company of well-to-do gentlemen, the implication is often too obvious.

She’s a woman who ultimately will allow a man to access her time, and potentially her body, in exchange for certain amenities, be that school fees paid, rent taken care of or just being taken out on the town. Not once is there ever a direct exchange of money for sex; it’s a nebulous arrangement that hints of mercantile exchange but at the same time somehow exists within the parameters of bonding, going out for dinner, vacations, etc. Things that a normal couple would do, except with the teaser of ‘willing’ to sponsor certain amenities.

One recent Guardian article stated: “I want my ideal prostitute not to behave like one,” he said, “to role-play to be a pretend girlfriend, a casual date, not business-like or mechanical. To a third person it looks like we’re in love.”

As much as men don’t want to admit to using prostitutes or resorting to them, many women too are loath to succumb to such personal self-identification.

It can be a fine line as she dangles the ‘on-the-surface persona’ of student, model, actress, etc. who she may or may not be in reality, while juggling the reality of staying afloat in a town like NYC where presentation, connections, looks and instincts will help one stay ahead.

She may in fact model — for B-grade catalogues — or may have once modeled years ago, she may in fact act — for non-paying Off-Broadway shows — and she may in fact be a real estate agent — for listings that hardly move. So how does she stay afloat while chasing the dream, even if she doubts she will ever really make it as a model, actress, artist, etc? She allows club promoters, friends, bookers and hedge fund managers to facilitate social invites so she can attend soirees and events in the hopes of meeting a high-caliber man who are willing to “book her” by taking her to intimate dinner parties, yacht cruises and social gatherings.

The bookers, promoters and hedge fund managers also make their sales while retaining the highest social cache without the hint of a single dollar or credit card being thrown in the direction of the women in question, never mind the fact that she would probably not be there had it not been for his money.

Not once is the word “prostitute” uttered, and on the surface everyone appears to be friends, acquaintances, all of whom are tacitly exchanging their calling cards for access to the NYC scene.

The woman, her youth, her looks, her cache and the man, his status, his clout, his money and his ability to pay for things — in the end both parties are spared the shame that direct financial arrangements would ordinarily connote. Instead, they come to rely on ingenuous methods to keep up appearances, while keeping both parties’ reputations and aspirations intact, and best of all, who knows? Maybe love will find its way into the equation too, as long as the clout, money, looks and air kissing stay intact…

One acquaintance told me: “I took her out.  She claimed to be a model, but I wasn’t sure because she was 5’4″ or 5’3″ and I don’t know of any models that short. I’m not an expert, but it just didn’t make sense. Then, at the end of the night, she said that she was interested in coming home with me. I was very turned on. Next, she said that she was short on rent — $700 — and would only come home with me if I gave her the money. I was shocked. I threw away her number.”

Will you throw away her number when you come across the hybrid hooker?
