Vandals Ransacked and Killed Beekeepers Beehive in Iowa

KIDS RANSACKED AND DESTROYED BEEHIVE, DEVASTATE BEEKEEPERS

When the bees die, there is little hope for humanity.  Remember that, and you should care.  At least for your children.  Beekeepers in Iowa were alarmed when they discovered the very tragic loss of their fifty beehives. These beehives housed about half a million bees, which the vandals lacerated and upended.  The vandals also ransacked all their supplies. So this means that over 500,000 bees were killed in the process and about $60,000 dollars of assets lost.

VANDALS KILLED THOUSANDS OF BEES, DESTROY BEEHIVES

Justin and Tori Engelhardt were very upset at the destruction. They built an ethically solid company over the past six years. But the vandals brought absolute devastation. The vandals knocked over every single beehive.  They furthermore ransacked every single piece of equipment.  Not stealing, but destroying everything and throwing it all out in the snow.  The Sioux City police department arrested two boys in connection with the destruction and vandalism.

BOYS ARE TWELVE AND THIRTEEN, JERKS OR SOCIOPATHS?

These boys are twelve and thirteen years old.  But since they are juveniles, authorities withheld their names from the press.  If a court convicts them for the ransacked beehives, as minors they will likely end up in the juvenile system.  Sparing them of over ten years of a conviction and a possible $10,000 fine for a $60,000 destruction spree.  That math is funny, right?

COMMUNITY SUPPORTS BEEKEEPERS WITH GOFUNDME PAGE

Luckily there is a large community of support for these beekeepers.  Todd LaCroix of Sioux City launched a GoFundMe page to help the couple get their much-needed beehives back on their feet. They have since raised half of what they lost, enabling them to get their business up and running.  They intend to be fully functioning again in the spring.

BEES ARE THE BEST AND YOU SHOULD CARE

Justin Engelhardt explained his fascination for bees as the impetus for starting his beekeeping business.  He explained that the way “they communicate with each other by dance” and that he could watch them for days.  Now, he will need to start all over again.
