ONE ISLAMOPHOBE CALLS FBI TO INVESTIGATE OVER NOTHING
We all make mistakes. But sometimes one stupid domino gets knocked over into another stupid domino. When that happens we call it the stupid domino effect. But when the stupid domino is a person or people sometimes they just keep falling. This is one example of that situation in progress. There’s a man named Munir Zanial who rented a lake property. He wanted to celebrate Malaysian Independence Day and throw a party. So one of his thematic decorations was a Malaysian flag, which looks a little similar to the Stars and Stripes. But an employee at the lake resort didn’t like the Malay flag. So they called the FBI, reporting that someone had defaced the US flag with Islamic State Symbols. That’s the first domino, and it’s a doozie. But there were more to fall.
AFTER MAN MISTAKES FLAG, FBI CLOSES INVESTIGATION INTO NOTHING
The FBI responded to this call and investigated. Obviously, the investigation couldn’t have been too long. The FBI quickly realized that the flag was a real sovereign symbol for the country of Malaysia. That, and an apology, should be where this story ends. But the next domino just had to fall too. The FBI cleared Zanial. But the Association still banned him from hosting any more events. So the ACLU has filed a lawsuit against the Spirit Boeing Employees Association for “racial profiling and blatant religious discrimination.” They seem to have a very solid case. What would most Americans say if he was a Christian? That answer seems obvious. But the ACLU has a clear path to victory for Munir’s case. It just may take some time. Why? Read on.

Munir Zanial is an aerospace engineer from Malaysia and a Muslim. He was a paying member of the employee association which is how he was able to rent the lakeside property. But Munir is an aerospace engineer. He’s also a paying member of the association. But people who look like him and celebrate other holidays get banned for being different. One would like to think that Americans would support something as noteworthy as, well, as a celebration of Malay independence. But not if you look like Munir. What is racism? What is discrimination? This is. It’s cut and dry.
AFTER FBI CLOSES, ASSOCIATION THEN HIRES PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR INTO NOTHING
The FBI closed its investigation of the defaced flag just weeks later. Yes, I know, I was sarcastic before about the duration. Then the employee association knocked over the next stupid domino. They hired a private investigator to look into the incident. After the FBI closed its investigation. That was when they revoked Munir’s rental privileges. But they didn’t bother to tell him. It doesn’t look good. It smells even worse. The local Kansas ACLU director pulled no punches:

“To label someone a terrorist due to their appearance and their celebration of their heritage is shameful, but to continue to use that mislabel as grounds for blatant discrimination – even after it had been discredited by the FBI – is downright reprehensible.”
ASSOCIATION REFUSES TO COMMENT
That is what you call an understatement. But the association has dug its heels in. And if you were waiting to hear what the Spirit Boeing Employees Association had to say, keep waiting. They have no comment. But we all know that’s not the last stupid domino to fall. They seem dedicated to make some more mistakes. But there is more sure to come in this story. But stay tuned. Boeing is sure to say something. Maybe. When they start looking bad from the public lawsuit.
