VLADIMIR PUTIN HONORS STEVEN SEAGAL WITH DECREE, THE ORDER OF FRIENDSHIP
Well, another awkward childhood fantasy is now wrecked forever. No, it’s not Santa Claus, fortunately. I still believe! But now there’s no way I’ll ever be able to watch any Steven Seagal movies again. Like, ever. It was already hard, as all of his action movies were fare made for an adolescent audience that never should have existed. I was young enough at the time to want to enjoy them. That’s bad enough to remember. But hearing about how Russia’s Vladimir Putin has just signed a decree honoring Seagal with the state Order of Friendship is just way beyond the pale.
SEAGAL, ALSO A RUSSIAN CITIZEN, OFTEN VISITS RUSSIA AND HAS WORKED AS A RUSIAN REPRESENTATIVE
The decree mentioned what it called the former action star’s “great contribution to the development of international cultural and humanitarian cooperation.” If that sounds upside down and inside out, that’s because it is. But Steven Seagal, if you didn’t already know, has regularly visited Russia and even became a citizen in 2016, when Vladimir Putin personally gave him his very own Russian passport. He also literally worked as the Russian Foreign Ministry’s “special representative” to the United States and Japan. If that sounds like giving the finger to both Japan and the United States, that’s because it is.
SEAGAL, OF COURSE, SUPPORTS UKRAINE INVASION AND PUPPETS RUSSIAN PROPAGANDA
And, given those little tidbits you won’t be surprised to hear that Seagal also supported Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea, and has also supported the invasion of Ukraine. Last year, Seagal gave an interview on Russian TV there he talked about how Ukraine was an “existential” threat to Russia. But Putin clearly knows which buttons to push, as in the United States the fans still loyal to Seagal must also be those who have consumed Russian propaganda ad nauseam. What did I say before about an adolescent audience that never should have existed?
