AUSTRALIAN MAN COOKS PORK ROAST IN OLD CAR DURING PERTH HEAT WAVE
His name is Stu Pengelly and he decided to have some disturbing fun with the heat wave Down Under in Australia. But yes, I know, using your car to cook, say, an egg is old news. But what about actually cooking a pork roast in your car? With nothing but the appalling power of the sun? That’s what Stu Pengelly went for. And yes, he was totally successful with his chef on wheels approach. Yet this is not the sort of thing we want to celebrate, necessarily. But I figure this is more palatable to read about than the thousands of Australians currently evacuating from deadly fire zones. But cooking pork roast successfully in a car is totally related!

OLD CAR A DATSUN WITH TINTED WINDOWS, EVEN A RUSTED HOLE IN THE ROOF, STILL AN OVEN
So now to the rind of the pork, so to speak. Stu (and yes, that’s a great name for a food story) used his old Datsun as a natural oven under the sun. On December 14th, he put a 3.3 pound pork roast and placed it on the car seat in a normal baking tin. The car has tinted windows (reducing sun getting thru) as well as a rusted out hole in the roof (letting heat out). But Stu said that the temperature in the old Datsun still went up to 188 degrees Fahrenheit! So that’s just…. Nuts. Or roasted nuts. So how long did it take to cook pork roast? 10 hours. And said it came out all nice and global warming tasty.

PORK ROAST COOKED WITH NO PROBLEM, WASN’T EVEN THE HOTTEST DAY BY FAR
So how hot did it get on that day in Perth, Australia? Not too bad, if you’re in the American southwest in a desert somewhere; 102 F. But for Perth, that wasn’t the hottest day in the least. They had already broken their record for most consecutive days at 104 or more, at three. Stu pulled this pork roast stunt in his own effort to highlight the dangers of leaving pets or kids in a car, unattended. His next public service experiment will be a roast beef. But I’d try to see how long it takes to cook your goose!
