THOUGHT BY MANY TO BE A CULT, OPUS DEI IS ABOUT TO BE OFFICIALLY ENDED BY POPE LEO
If you’re not Catholic, you may only find the name, Opus Dei, familiar because you saw Tom hanks in the movie The Da Vinci Code which came out almost 20 years ago. Opus Dei, of course, was portrayed as a sinister cult-like organization in the movie, which the actual, real-life Opus Dei organization has claimed was wildly inaccurate and “hurtful.” But it seems the veneer that has coated the organization is rubbing off, and fast. Even more noteworthy is the fact that it’s days are now numbered, as scuttlebutt coming from multiple Vatican sources are saying that Pope Leo is about to approve new statutes that will effectively end it officially.

But here’s the thing. Opus Dei just may very well actually have been a cult for decades now. Senior members controlled a bank, Banco Popular in Spain, that went under about 8 years ago, which a host of reporting has shown enabled political and financial corruption working hand in hand with the Franco Regime. Doesn’t that sound like something that would have been in a “fictional” movie like The Da Vinci Code? And then there’s the human trafficking. Yes, human trafficking, which involved modern day indentured service of women forced to work for senior members of….. Opus Dei. This has been “known” for years now, so there’s something we don’t yet know that’s motivating Pope Leo to take action now.

But to be fair, a host of self-aware Republicans (which means they know enough to know better) also know Opus Dei quite well. Why? A number of reasons, the least of which is that the “cult” has it’s fingers deep into things like Project 25, and a number of connections to some of the more odious groups involved in and around the Donald Trump administration. And yes, many people consider the MAGA movement to be extremely cult-like, as well. And just in case you didn’t also know, Opus Dei has ties to the majority of the United States Supreme Court. So you might want to track reporting on this in the coming weeks, as Pope Leo will make this official soon.
