Your Again Fashionable Polyester is Shedding a LOT of Microplastics

NEW STUDY SHOWS THAT JUST WEARING POLYESTER CAUSES MICROPLASTIC SHEDDING, AND HOW

So if you can read the English language, you’re almost certain to be in some degree of lockdown and disruption from the Coronavirus.  Well, even if you don’t speak English, as this is becoming a universal truth for a while.  But regardless, you are gonna be spending a lot more time online.  That may even be why you’re reading this!  So while we’re all talking and messaging about being afraid of breathing other people’s shared air, let’s talk about microplastics, too.  Why?  Because it’s bad for you, it’s bad for the planet.  Shoot, it’s bad for everything.  And now we know for sure that the for some reason again fashionable polyester you may wear is shedding microplastics every time you wear it.  A LOT of it.

POLYESTER NEWS IS TRUE FOR NYLON AND ACRYLIC FIBERS TOO, SO WE NEED TO PAY ATTENTION NOW

Awesome, right?  But here’s the deal.  It’s not just polyester!  The same is true for other artificial clothing fibers like nylon and acrylic.  Yeah, even if you’re not trendy, you know wear both of those.  Like, a LOT.  But new research has just found that simply wearing these clothes causes the shedding of even more microplastics than washing them!  This new research just appeared in Environmental Science and Technology.  So now we know that just wearing these fibers, for a few hours, causes just as much pollution as washing them.

NOW WE KNOW AVERAGE POLYESTER WEARER SHEDS 1.2 TRILLION MICROPLASTIC PARTICLES PER YEAR

And the numbers aren’t good, either.  The average joe adds about 300 MILLION polyester microfibers per year.  And this study shows that same average joe wearing these clothes releases 3 times more than that!  So if you’re feeling a phantom rug burn down there, that’s just your soul trying to communicate this fact to you.  Penicillin won’t fix it.  Like forest fires, only you can prevent even more microfiber pollution.  And for you youngsters out there who are already getting informed about all this stuff, don’t forget all these fibers are made from fossil fuels.  And from the year 2000 2014, he world has doubled its clothing production.

So someone pretty please invent stuff to start pulling microfibers from the environment?  While wearing hemp, cotton, or wool only, of course.
