ON THE LAM FOR 17 YEARS, UNTIL POLICE DRONE FINDS FUGITIVE LIVING IN RURAL CAVE
So we’ve all heard stories about fugitives who escape the law and manage to live, totally free. Well, maybe not totally free. They still have to hide from the law. But what about a fugitive who hid from the law for 17 years? Sure, he wasn’t living high on the hog or anything. He was, in fact, living in a rural cave. But his days of freedom lasted only as long as his hiding place remained out of sight from police. And the time was up when a police drone found him and where he’s been living for some time. Just like a factory line worker, the modern world caught up to this fugitive from justice.
FUGITIVE WAS A CONVICTED HUMAN TRAFFICKER, OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN
But despite the romanticism so many would assign to this story (well, not the end), don’t feel sorry for this man. His name is Song Moujiang and he was (and is) a convicted human trafficker. So he’s pretty much a bad character, no matter how you look at him. Song escaped from a prison work camp, the Yilaochang Farm in Sichuan province, in March 2002. But authorities never forgot about Song, and they never gave up trying to find and apprehend him, either. So things got better for the Yonghan police in the past few weeks. The police say they’ve tried to find him a number of times over the years. But until they received tips recently, they had no luck at all.
POLICE DRONE FOUND HIDDEN CAVE HOME LOCATION IN JUST 5 HOURS OF RECON
Someone gave police a decent idea where the fugitive was hiding. And those tips led police to search a mountainous area not far from the Yunnan province in southern China. But police pretty much crapped out when they searched on foot. So they sent a police drone to map out the area visually. After 5 hours of the police drone doing a recon, “a blue color steel tile appeared on the steep cliff.” Yup. You guessed it. That was the first clue. So the drone cop zoomed the focus closer, seeing a small cliff below.
FUGITIVE COULD BARELY SPEAK, BECAUSE HE WAS SO OUT OF PRACTICE, LIVING IN A CAVE
After hiking on foot for an hour, police got to the cliff and snuck up to the cave. There, they found a dirty old man, the 63-year-old fugitive. The former convicted human trafficker of women and kids had trouble speaking as he hadn’t used any language for years. But I’m sure he’ll get back into the groove when he gets to prison.
