New Old Man Punk Rock Band, Punk Genre Lives On

PUNK ROCK LIVES ON IN NEW, OLD MAN BAND

Punk rock is a genre of music which originated in the 1970s, in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia.  Rock critics started using the term back in the 70’s.  It produced a generation of rich bands, like the Ramones, the Sex Pistols and the Clash. This genre of music was uncompromisingly modern.  Ramones drummer, Tommy Ramone said, “In its initial form, a lot of (1960s) stuff was innovative and exciting.  Unfortunately, what happens is that people who could not hold a candle to the likes of Hendrix started noodling away.  Soon you had endless solos that went nowhere.” Regardless, this genre has considerable youthful appeal, even from an old man band.  Old school punks understand this is timeless.  But what’s old is new again, especially if you’re old.

NEW GENRE KEEPS THE OLD LOOKING NEW

But old school punks and maybe even new school punks can relate to a brand-new song by a group of old and cranky musicians called, “Fuck Youth.”  The old man band, Superbeam, is a Los Angeles based punk group. They loudly blast their dissidence.  The lyrics read: “Kids today think they are so great, They think they really got it made, GOT IT MADE! When I was their age it was so much cooler, When I got older I found out the truth, FUCK YOUTH.”  The video is reminiscent of the 70’s with a yeller and a screamer crying, “You kids get off my lawn”.  And, eventually, they will.  This song follows the tradition of the true punk rock genre.

NOT ANTI-YOUTH,  JUST SINGING A SONG

These punk rock artists insist that they are not “anti-youth” and this song is just like songs every generation sings.  Many people from yesteryear are finding it inspiring.  But especially those who used to slam their bodies in mosh pits!  Someone posted the video recently on Facebook and it already has more than one hundred thousand views. People around the globe are sharing their love for these old school punk rockers in the remarks.  If their quick notoriety is any indication, the punk rock genre is alive and well and will be for some time.
