Ohio Nail Salon Owner Vows to Keep Biz Name, Hand Jobs

Ohio Nail Salon Owner Vows to Keep Biz Name Hand Jobs

HAND JOBS NAIL SALON COULD LOSE ITS NAME TO TOWN PRUDES

So marketing is key for small business owners.  Shoot, you could just have a hotdog stand at a desert crossroads.  But you better have good marketing and know your customers.  So I’m not completely sure what to make about this story coming out of Ohio.  Dawn Moon owns a nail salon in Perkins Township.  But the name of the nail salon is Hand Jobs.  That’s right, hand jobs.  But some people hate the name and want to force Moon to change it.  Moon vows to fight to keep the name.

So should we care about this?  Well, yes.  Personally, for me, I think it’s funny.  But I like funny marketing.  And I think it’s funny.  But it is also literal.  Moon lays it out nice and simply, saying, “If you go in and get your nose done, it’s called a nose job, right? Well, you come in and get your hands done, it’s a hand job!”  Well, she’s right.  But yes, a hand job in our common vernacular tends to refer to something…else.  But Moon didn’t name her nail salon Choking the Chicken of Flogging the Dolphin.

TOWN AUTHORITIES SAY THEY WILL DETERMINE IF BIZ NAME IS OBSENE

Perkins Township Zoning Director Megan Shurland confirmed there have been complaints about the name and sign.  She also confirmed officials are trying to figure out if they should consider the sign obscene.  Shurland said, “We have no stance on it other than we have to take into consideration the entire feel and community of Perkins Township.”  I’m not sure what the entire feel and community of any town is.  But I am sure that there is NEVER consensus about anything in any town.

LET’S ALL GO TO THE BEST HAND JOBS SALON IN ALL OF OHIO

But I will give the prudes everywhere this.  If Hand Jobs was the name of a massage parlor right next to saloon at the edge of town (see what I did there?), maybe there would be some cause for concern.  Meanwhile, I now realize my cuticles have had no professional attention in some time.  As for the rest of me, don’t you worry.  But I do hope Moon keeps her Hand Jobs sign and business name.  When she wins, she can use the caption, “the only hand jobs in town.” Come on, Ohio. Chill.
