NEW GREEN DEAL POLL SHOWS SHOCKING JUMP IN BROAD SUPPORT
So have you heard of the New Green Deal? It’s pretty much what it sounds like. Just like the original New Deal (which is now how old, btw?) the New Green Deal would employ a LOT of Americans in green jobs, creating a new, environmentally sustainable energy system. Notable aspects of that include making the entire US electrical grid 100% renewable energy by the year 2030. That would, of course, focus on our improvement of energy efficiency and mandated policies creating green jobs. But specifically, creating green jobs while transitioning workers out of the fossil fuel industry. That sounds great, right? Well, a new poll found that there is increasing support, which is a relief. 81%of respondents from all political stripes think it’s a good idea.

WILL SUPPORT STAY STRONG AFTER CONSERVATIVE MEDIA ATTACKS?
But we should maybe temper our relief just a bit. It is great that people support such an obviously good idea. Just a few years ago, no Democratic leaders would have played any real role in support. But now we have a host of them who are front and center, with the newly elected like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. But that’s the thing, the New Green Deal has not yet really been put thru the media spin-dry. So we don’t know how opinions will change once it is vilified to all Fox News viewers. But 64% of Republicans who responded to this poll said they support the New Green Deal. There’s no way they don’t know that it is, essentially, a new iteration of social democracy. To quote the latter day orangutan, that’s “yuuuuge!”
NEW GREN DEAL MEANS JOBS FOR GENERATIONS, NO MORE BLACK LUNG
So we will all see what happens next. We’ve got some ugly politics ahead, no matter what. But there’s only so much sand we can cover our heads with as natural disasters keep wrecking our communities. Climate change is real. Oil and coal are almost done. Well, coal is already done. Even the coal industry knows it. But the need for jobs that last is also very real. Renewable energy will NEVER go away. Neither will the jobs that are needed to build it and sustain it.
