NYC Millennial Attracted to Glam and Riches Is Now Debt Free

GLAM AND RICHES AIN’T GONNA GET YOU ANYWHERE WITHOUT MONEY

Lissette Calveiro, another millennial, was obsessed with Social Media and how others perceived her.  So much so, that she moved to New York City back in 2013 and took on an unpaid public relations internship after college.  She worked hard and partied hard.  But she spent loads of money and got into a huge credit card debt over a three-year period.  She was incredibly influenced by the famous people on Instagram.  The Glam, Riches and Lifestyle she could only pretend to have. But then she wanted out of this situation. Now she is attracted to a debt free lifestyle.

ATTRACTED TO SPENDING GOT HER NOWHERE FAST

Calveiro spent the money like she was making the money, but she wasn’t.  She went out and used her credit card.  She shopped and used her credit card.  And she used her credit card.  She was attracted to the glam and idea of riches. And she was far away from being debt free. Her job luckily paid for a travel stipend, but that was it. She bought herself a fancy camera to document her extravagant lifestyle in NYC.

OVERSPENT AND OUT OF LUCK

She couldn’t keep up with the glam NYC lifestyle, so after four months of internship she moved back to Miami and got a full-time job.  However, she kept spending lots of money.  She would spend her entire paycheck on clothing and going out. She wouldn’t save a penny and often overspent. And she tended to overspend as a habit. She justified her spending on the fact that she would get everything for a deal.

MULTIPLE CREDIT CARDS AND MULTIPLE HEADACHES

Her biggest mistake was using multiple credit cards and paying only the minimum payment.  And she didn’t track what she spent. She simply thought about the glam and riches she pretended to have. She spread out her bills so that they seemed like less every month.  Her goal was to move back to NYC but she realized she could not afford it because she was deep in the hole of debt. This is when she decided she needed to change her ways.

NOW DEBT FREE BECAUSE THIS MILLENIAL USED HER BRAIN AND A BUDGET

She decided to live well beneath her means.  She got an apartment that cost $700, stopped eating out and shopping.  And she started to put a lot of money towards her credit cards. Instead of spending money on designer clothes, she decided to use a service called Rent the Runway,  where she could rent cool clothes instead of buying. She also budgets now and blogs about her personal growth. She’s trying to educate other millennials about better spending habits so they don’t do what she did.  She’s now debt free and plans on staying that way!
