Fox News Doctor Pregnant Gals Can’t be Trusted with Weed

FOX DOCTOR DOESN’T TRUST PREGNANT WOMEN WITH WEED

So another day, another misogynistic commentary from Fox News.  Last week their Medical A-Team Doctor Marc Siegel had a lot to say about marijuana use.  He started with saying marijuana is “worse than alcohol” for driving.  He says users feel its effects for days.  But that opinion, which may or may not have any foundation in empirical reality, was not all Marc had to say.  The Fox News Doctor also feels that pregnant women are not to be trusted for having access to marijuana for medical purposes.  Pregnant gals just can’t be trusted, especially when they have nausea.

OLD HISTORY, NEW UGLINESS WITH SCARE TACTICS

Siegel’s spot seemed to be a throwback reaction piece to the ever-widening acceptance of marijuana use.  This seems to be especially true as the Trump Administration is attempting to trump states’ rights when it comes to legalizing marijuana use.  Do you know of the film “Reefer Madness?  Reefer Madness is an ugly piece of history.  It dates back to when racism was used to help criminalize marijuana.  Unfortunately for us all, Marc Siegel did his best to channel that ugly history.

QUIET HISTRIONICS ABOUT PRETTY MUCH NOTHING

Some of Siegel’s points about legalization’s impacts were valid.  But they were also irrelevant.  His referencing Colorado’s incidence of people driving while stoned after legalization doesn’t mean much.  We might as well be a dry country.  He also noted that car accidents with people on marijuana had doubled as well.  And?  Siegel backtracked, but only a little.  “That doesn’t mean that pot is the cause,” he admitted. “It means that people who die in car wrecks, twice as many as before have some marijuana in their system.”  So what happens if you suddenly legalized carrots?  I suspect you’d have more dead people with good eyesight.  Or maybe just more orange dead people.

CLAIMS WEED CAUSES CAR ACCIDENTS, BUT NO EVIDENCE

But then he promptly dug a hole with nonsense.  “It’s worse than alcohol in some ways.  It stays in your system for days and days and days — THC — so it impairs judgment. That’s what you need with driving. You know, it impairs how you are thinking, where you perceive the next car being.  It’s got to increase car accidents!”

PREGNANT GALS CAN’T BE TRUSTED NOT TO USE POT FOR MORNING SICKNESS

But then came the patriarchal bullshit that seems to be a tradition with these people.  Siegel then jumped in with both feet.  He explained that pregnant women with morning sickness wouldn’t be able to abstain from using weed to control their nausea.  “You know what that leads to?” the Fox News Doctor asked. “It leads to children who have behavioral problems, that can’t focus, that have memory problems, that don’t do as well in school, leads to low-birth-weight pre-term infants. This is very bad for pregnancy.”  Hmmm.  Was Siegel’s mom one of these pregnant gals?

FOX NEWS DOCTOR THINKS MARIJUANA CAN DESTROY EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE

Siegel really, really REALLY doesn’t want anyone to have access to marijuana.  He firmly believes that using it once a week is all you need to destroy your relationships and your work life.  It’s too bad he’s wrong, otherwise I’d suggest he smoke every damn day.
