TRUMP FIRES ENTIRE NATIONAL SCIENCE BOARD 2 DAYS BEFORE THEY WERE TO RELEASE REPORT
While I’m not entirely surprised, I am wholeheartedly disappointed with this news. The Trump Administration has fired the whole National Science Board, all 22 members, just two days before they were to release their report on America’s performance in science and technology. And, lest you start experiencing any poignant expectation with the obvious, the United States isn’t performing very well in comparison to, say, China. So needless to say, if there’s no National Science Board, there’s no one there to issue their report detailing how America is only falling further behind China when it comes to creative advancements.

NOW, WE’RE NOT LIKELY TO EVER SEE THE REAL REPORT ABOUT AMERICA’S SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING STATUS
As an American, this is just a little appalling, as this just further confirms that for us to catch up, it will take years of coordinated dedication. Rather, even more years than I already found appalling. But when it comes to unwelcome news that it can’t spin, the Trump Administration isn’t shy about simply burying it, or at least delaying it until it can be adequately edited into some spin-able form for Fox News. But let’s not forget that the MAGA White House has to trample our sensibilities with brazen insult, and this was no exception.

Because not only did he fire the entire National Science Board, they were informed of their summary dismissal by an email that was comprised of only two sentences. Given how typo heavy sloppy the administration has been, perhaps this was to reduce the change of grammatical error. But every American should be concerned by this development. Because we no longer have an advisory board that helps direct the National Science Foundation or that does work to be an independent advisor for both the President and Congress on science and engineering topics.
I’m sure we can expect to see new lackeys who are entirely incompetent to fill the currently empty seats of the National Science Board soon. And then I’m sure their recommendations will involve spending US tax dollars on private contracts.
