LEPERS MAY GET COMPANY AS REPUBLICAN REP BETTY PRICE SUGGESTS HIV PATIENTS BE QUARANTINED
Tom Price, well, sort of a nut. Do you know the ex-Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price? If you do then you may also know his wife, Georgia Rep Betty Price, who seems to enjoy feeding at the same public trough of money as her former husband. Oh, and she has opinions about stuff. What kind of stuff? Well, a couple weeks ago she made some commentary at a public hearing. Her most notable comment was that she thought it might be a good idea that people with HIV should be quarantined. You read that right.

Of course, now that pretty much anyone with any sense of decency is freaking out and speaking out against this dangerous rhetoric, Betty is trying to “clarify” her comment that it might be a good idea to cordon off people with HIV to help stop its spread. In a statement to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Betty attempted to contextualize that the “provocative and rhetorical comment,” made during a public hearing Friday, was “taken completely out of context.” In other words, she didn’t mean what she said after many people reacted to…. what she said. In the statement she also made clear, “I do not support a quarantine in this public health challenge and dilemma of undertreated HIV patients.” Except, she suggested it.

BETTY CLAIMS COMMENTS SOUGHT TO “LIGHT A FIRE” FOR RESOLVE AND COMMITMENT
“I do, however, wish to light a fire under all of us with responsibility in the public health arena — a fire that will result in resolve and commitment to ensure that all of our fellow citizens with HIV will receive, and adhere to, a treatment regimen that will enhance their quality of life and protect the health of the public,” she continued. Get that? She means that she was being provocative, being a responsible public figure by saying something awful and irresponsible in order to prompt responsibility in others. Get it?
20 YEARS A DOCTOR, PRICE DOESN’T SEEM TO KNOW THE BASICS OF HIV, INFECTION RISKS
Price, who had been a doctor for 20 years before moving into politics, was at the committee meeting Tuesday when a state health official brought up the daunting situation in Georgia. The Peach State last year had the second highest rate of new HIV infections across the country, the head of the Georgia Department of Public Health’s HIV/AIDS Epidemiology division said.
“What are we legally able to do? I don’t want to say the quarantine word, but I guess I just said it,” Price reportedly asked the section head, Dr. Pascale Wortley. “Are there any methods, legally, that we could do that would curtail the spread?” See? Obviously, Betty was being a provocateur in order to help people. One wonders if irony yet survives these blatant utterances of civic prompting.

Rep Betty Price was also a focal point of the probe into her husband, which ended just last month in his resignation over his high-flying habit of using private jets (she was on the jets too, it seems).
The former HHS chief — also a former practicing doctor and ex-congressman — is estimated to have taken $1 million value of private flights using taxpayer money, sometimes accompanied by his wife. What would happen if some civic minded person made the suggestion that elected and appointed officials had to personally reimburse money they wasted/stole from taxpayers while on the job? Would that be provocative?
