HEART PATIENT COUGHS UP CORAL SHAPED, GIANT BLOOD CLOT
Besides being beautiful and pretty much disgusting, this thing is totally weird. And it might have been a pattern on NCIS’s former Abby Sciuto’s character Christmas sweater this year. But that’s no more. Anyway, this isn’t something I would ever have imagined is possible. That beautiful disgusting thing is SIX INCHES WIDE. That’s a blood clot, six inches wide! It came out of the right bronchial tree of a man’s lung. Occasionally, everyone coughs up something slightly disturbing. But this? It should be coral. It’s coral shaped! But it’s a blood clot.

MAN SUFFERED FROM LONG TERM HEART FAILURE, ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL
So ok, this wasn’t a scenario where this guy was working in his garage refinishing a dining table and, cough, what the hell is that? This man was 36-years-old who had been struggling with heart failure for some time. His doctors were from the University of California, Gavitt A. Woodard and Georg M. Wieselthaler. They documented how this came from their patient and that he had had “heart failure with an ejection fraction of 20%, bioprosthetic aortic-valve replacement for bicuspid aortic stenosis, endovascular stenting of an aortic aneurysm, and placement of a permanent pacemaker for complete heart block.”

FULL-BODY CIRCULATOR AND BLOOD THINNER MADE RARE CLOT POSSIBLE
So when they admitted the man to the hospital they first hooked him up to a pump that helps circulate blood all over the body. It’s an Impella ventricular assist device. But it also included an ongoing infusion of heparin, which is an anticoagulant. Think blood-thinner. But sometimes that can cause uncontrolled internal bleeding. That’s what we see here with this poor bastard. And that’s how this…. Thing happened in his lungs. It’s extremely rare, which is good to hear. But this thing is a prefect cast of a section of this man’s lung. Creepy…. Unfortunately, this poor guy later succumbed to his heart condition.
