Lots of Sugary Booze Leads to Hangovers, Why

LOTS OF SUGARY BOOZE THE WORST

Drinking in excess can lead to a drunken stupor and eventually a hangover. And as we all know hangovers are awful.  Ironically, January 1st is National Hangover Day.  The day after excess and debauchery is the day we celebrate pain.  But there are so many cures out there.  There are some that work and many others that don’t.  Lots of booze, especially sugary booze, will lead to bad places. But what really causes the hangover? If you investigate the science of hangovers, it may actually help you deal with one more effectively.

HANGOVERS ALMOST ALWAYS LIKELY WITH TOO MUCH ALCOHOL

Drinking alcohol is parallel to a diuretic. You will need to pee a lot. Peeing a lot  can lead to dehydration.  It’s important to drink water while you are drinking alcohol to ensure that you get enough good fluids. If you are dehydrated this can lead to all sorts of issues, such as fatigue, nausea and pain the following morning.  So hangovers are the natural result.  And Hair of the Dog ain’t the way to go.

SUGARY DRINKS SEE GLUCOSE LEVEL DROPS

Large quantities of alcohol mixed with other beverages are usually laced in sugar. Lots of alcohol and sugar floods the system.  What goes up must come down.  What comes down is a sugar crash. When alcohol is processed, glucose levels will drop.  Once this happens you may feel awful and unable to think clearly.  And that’s after you sober up!

YOUR LIVER WORKS OVERTIME

Our liver works too hard when we consume large quantities of alcohol.  The liver does its best to remove toxins.  So when drinking in excess, the liver is working very hard to make sure the body survives. It’s essentially metabolizing the alcohol. Often the next day, the liver attempts to get on with its regular routine.  This transition can be particularly challenging.  And you will feel that, but not in a good way.

KNOW WHAT YOU’RE GETTING INTO

So, if you decide to consume large quantities of alcohol…think about it.  Your liver works harder than ever.  Glucose levels drop after consuming what is really a poison.  Also, alcohol will likely make you dehydrated.  So, best to drink lots of water with your alcohol, avoid sugary mixed drinks and just know your body is being poisoned. And you will have a hangover.
