In England, a 42-year-old woman’s left eyelid began to swell up and caused her no small amount of pain. So she went to the doctor to see what was wrong. The doctors realized that her eyelid was drooping. But the woman said that wasn’t new. She had had a heavy lid for a while and was accustomed to it. But no one expected the true cause. A lost contact lens from 28 years before was embedded in her eyelid!

DOCTORS FIND LOST CONTACT LENS EMBEDDED IN WOMAN’S EYELID
The doctors gave her an MRI scan and saw that some kind of lump had formed under the painful eyelid. So they then operated to fix the problem. They ruptured the cyst. But they then found a contact lens inside the cyst! The contact lens was completely whole. It was perfectly preserved inside the woman’s eyelid after all that time. The lens was the rigid gas permeable type. Most know those as a “hard lens,” that are just a bit stronger than most other types. But the scary part? The woman hadn’t worn that type of lens for almost 30 years! So how in the world did it get in her eyelid?

Rewind 28 years to when the woman was just a 14-year-old. She was playing badminton and the shuttlecock hit her in the face, right on her left eye. When her parents looked over her eye there was no contact lens there. They all assumed it had just fallen out.
So the 14-year-old girl stopped wearing those contacts that very day. But the shuttlecock didn’t knock it out. Its impact embedded it in her eyelid! Somehow, it stayed there for nearly 30 years. It didn’t bother her vision or cause her any pain. Well, not for 28 years, anyway.
