HIS NAME IS CALEB BENNETT, BUT NOW HIS FRIENDS CALL HIM ANCHORMAN
Say what? His name is Caleb Bennett and the 14-year-old has always loved being on boats. He’s from Manatee County, Florida. So naturally, he grew up on the water and regularly took fishing trips with his family. But then one day, an anchor struck him in the head and became lodged. Yes, in his head. It pierced his skull! But somehow, he survived this incredible, unusual injury. Doctors say his survival and recovery is some kind of miracle. I tend to agree. But as you might guess, this absolute survivor now has a new nickname. His friends now call him the anchorman. With all due respect to Will Ferrell, there’s a new Anchorman title holder, and it’s Caleb Bennett!

THE ANCHOR PIERCED AND WAS LODGED IN HIS SKULL, BUT THE ANCHORMAN DIDN’T PANIC
Caleb had been out on the water in a boat with his brother and some friends when the anchor slipped off the back end of the craft. The line attached to the anchor quickly pulled tight. But that caused the anchor to swing quickly back, hitting young Caleb in the forehead. But it was in his forehead! So he caught the anchor in his hands, even as he fell to his knees. Being a smart kid, this anchorman didn’t try to pull the anchor from his skull. He quickly asked someone to call 911. He said, “I’m probably going to die.” Wow. His parents had no idea as they were in the Bahamas celebrating their wedding anniversary.

HIS PARENTS QUICKLY RETURNED TO FLORIDA, NOT KNOWING SEVERITY OF SON’S INJURIES
Caleb quickly arrived at John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg for emergency surgery. His mother got word while she was sitting alone on the beach. One moment, she was sitting in paradise. But she said, “Needless to say, I kind of lost it.” Yeah. I can only imagine. Her son had an anchor lodged in his skull. She and her husband had no idea how serious the injuries were until they managed to return to Florida that evening. Caleb the Anchorman received an emergency craniotomy. That means surgeons partially removed his frontal lobe, giving his brain space to swell. Doctor’s put him into a medically induced coma. At the time, they said he may never speak, walk or have control of his limbs again.
But just 5 days after waking up from his coma, he was up, walking around and talking. The newly dubbed Anchorman has suffered some mild seizures, which are being controlled with medication. Doctors say his recovery is “one in a million.”
