We all know that leadership is indispensable, especially in organizations or companies. But before a person can become a good leader for others, it is necessary to have a leadership soul first.  So before you can be an asset to others as a leader, you have some work to do.  That means growing your leadership soul.  You have to harness your desire which means you have to know what it is.  You need to be able to self-evaluate and evaluate the landscape of risk.  Then you aim at self-mastery.  So your leadership soul consists of your social skills, your wisdom, courage and the ability to solve problems.  The 7 tips below are a clear path on how to proceed.

It’s only then you can effectively lead others to follow your example!  Your leadership soul has to be strong and clear first.  So how do you go about growing your leadership soul?

HAVE THE MOTIVATION TO GROW AND DEVELOP

If you want to develop a soul of leadership in yourself, you first need to have the motivation and drive to grow. Convince yourself that you are prepared to work hard to develop leadership skills.  So you have to be accept constructive criticism and be willing to change strategy if needed.

LIVE IN THE NOW: KNOW WHAT’S WHAT TODAY

Begin to look inward, which skills need improvement and what capabilities you have today. You’ll need feedback from those who know you best.  Be willing to hear them!

DEVELOP STRONGER SOCIAL AND COGNITIVE SKILLS

An effective leader must be smart.  But that doesn’t mean you have to have a very high IQ score.  But you do need to know what you are doing and how to make decisions appropriately. So learn to collect and analyze data before making a decision. But you also need to be socially intelligent.  You have to be able to see things from another’s perspective.

STRONGER EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

Clever is not enough. If you want to cultivate a soul of leadership, emotional intelligence is also required.  That is, the ability to know the emotions of others while staying in emotional control of yourself.

Characteristics that a leader needs are: being evenhanded with others, regulation of emotions with defined goals.  But be careful and wise when considering others’ views.  Yet don’t hesitate to make change when you see the need.

What is your priority today?  How may that change tomorrow?  Who can help you perceive necessity?  Finding and maintaining a balance of what is needed day in and day out is a major part of growing your leadership soul.

You can get valuable feedback from mentors, coaches, and peers. Feedback may seem unimportant, but you can find out how others judge your leadership skills. Use your own mistakes as tools to learn and to develop your leadership spirit!
Growing a soul of leadership is not a one-off affair.  This is an ongoing, sustainable, process. So don’t ever forget, to start to succeed you must fail.  You must perceive that failure.  But you have to use a variety of eyes to learn to succeed, every single day.  These 7 tips are a great way to move forward as a leader.
