KFC Asia Launches Finger Lickin Good Nail Polish

EDIBLE NAIL POLISH THAT TASTES LIKE YOUR FAVORITE MULTINATIONAL FRIED CHICKEN

This is no Onion piece, though the Onion likely wishes they had written this as fiction a year ago.  But now unrealized creative fiction has arrived as marketed, branded reality!  KFC in Hong Kong has announced what can only be described as Finger Lickin’ Good nail polish.  You read that right.

TWO FLAVORS THE BRAINCHILD OF UNUSUAL PARTNERSHIP

While this was originally announced close to April Fools’ Day it is fact and not fiction.  Somehow the McCormick group, which is the spice supplier for KFC, partnered with a nail polish producer connected to the Ogilvy & Mather marketing firm.  The result of this tandem’s work is two different flavors of edible (Finger Lickin’ Good) nail polish: Original and Hot & Spicy.

For those who have never succumbed to a late night chicken run to the Colonel, those are the restaurant chain’s two most popular types of chicken seasoning. According to a representative for Ogilvy & Mather, the nail polish works just like any other. It even dries with a glossy shine. Once it has dried, then it is time to start licking away. KFC claims that the application will last for up to three days with regular licking.

FLAVOR RUNOFF TO DECIDE WHICH CHICKEN LICKIN’ GETS TO MASS MARKET

Originally, only a special collector’s box was unveiled, but they have since gone on sale to the public. KFC is asking Hong Kong residents to vote on their preferred flavor. Once enough votes are tallied, Kentucky Fried Chicken will begin mass-producing the winning flavor. Similar fruit- and vegetable-flavored nail polishes have been marketed to children in the past under the name Kid Licks.

However, there has always been a concern that the cosmetic itself is unsafe, to say nothing of the unhygienic finger licking encouraged by this type of product. In the latest poll, Original is narrowly leading Hot & Spicy. In case you’re still on the fence, Ogilvy & Mather has you covered. They created a weird music video to go along with the product release. You have to give KFC credit for still trying to expand its brand. It would be easy for them to rest on their laurels, especially when you consider KFC for Christmas is a huge event in Japan.
