CYNICS GET SALUTE, AS KANYE WEST PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN WAS A GOP OPERATION ALL ALONG
Kanye West. Just to hear the name causes all sorts of things to come to mind. You know, by association? Controversy, African American but politically “other,” mental health issues, and maybe music too. And, well, it’s worth remembering that Kanye West launched his own presidential campaign for 2020. You likely remember it happened (because it did). But with the “Stop the Steal” hysterics, the Capitol Riot and Covid, Covid, Covid, it’s hard to remember why that was worth remembering. Many, including the I in this idiot, thought his campaign was pure stupidity, a distraction meant to help Trump and hurt Biden. And now we know for sure that the Kanye West Presidential Campaign was a GOP operation all along.
KANYE WEST RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT WAS JUST ABOUT TAKING BLACK VOTES FROM JOE BIDEN
So before I go into how we now know this to be true, let me also mention that at the time this idiot (me) also thought that people were taking advantage of Kanye. The dude needs help, not more attention. He certainly didn’t need to be a political mule for anyone else, least of all Donald Trump. Because let’s hope, for hoping’s sake, that Kanye would have dropped the mic and exited stage anywhere if he knew he was only out there to take as many African American votes away from Biden to help Trump win. Well, I’d like to think so, anyway. But there is that mental health consideration to, um, consider.
GOP POURED MILLIONS OF DOLLARS INTO KANYE CAMPAIGN, WITH TOP CONSERVATIVES ON THE JOB
But cynical is a word that is the least to apply to the political shit storm that surrounded everything Donald Trump, and especially all the (varied) groups working to get him re-elected. Supposedly Kanye West’s campaign was to be an “independent” 3rd party bid. But new info in the wild documents shed new light on what was really afoot. For one, West’s campaign tried to hide millions of dollars worth of services it made use of from a very secret network of Republican Party operatives. And these even included advisors to GOP elites as well as a managing partner at one of America’s most prominent conservative political firms.
So yeah, Kanye West ran for President of the United States. Sort of. But really, he’s just a higher profile victim as a minority. Well, and another reason why reflexive cynicism seems perfectly justifiable these days.
