Kanye West Is Back to Screaming on Twitter, This Time at Jimmy Kimmel

Welcome back, Kanye! We’ve missed you, and your all caps. After staying off social media and behaving like a normal human being for the last year, with the exception of a few run-ins with the paps and some over-the-top interviews about his new album, Kanye is back to doing what he does best: being crazy. After Jimmy Kimmel made a few jokes about Kanye being “his own hype man” and showing a parody of the rapper’s recent BBC Radio 1 interview starring two young children drinking milkshakes, Kanye became livid and unleashed his hurt little feelings on Twitter:

In the BBC interview, Kanye opens up, a lot (his PR team was probably gesturing and mouthing “rein it in” behind the cameras), talking about everything from his aspirations to civil rights and backlash against his ambitions. He commented on criticisms of his song “I am God”: “When someone comes out and says ‘I am a god,’ everybody says, ‘Who does he think he is?’ Well I just told you who I thought I was! I am a god — I just told you. . . . Would it have been better if I had a song called ‘I am a gangsta’? Or ‘I am a pimp’? All those colors and patinas fit better on a person like me, right?” Touché. But maybe you can find some kind of middle ground between pimp and God?

Later he goes on to vent his frustrations over being rejected in the high-fashion business. “Me and Virgil [Kanye’s style adviser] are in Rome giving designs to Fendi over and over and getting our designs knocked down. We brought the leather jogging pants six years ago to Fendi and they said ‘no.’ Now, how many motherfuckers you done seen with a leather jogging pant?” When Kimmel aired this bit on his show, he responded to Kanye’s question: “I dunno . . . none? Is that a thing?”

Then he shows the parody, and thus begins the feud. To Kanye, Kimmel went too far this time. This interview was special, not to be mocked. In this interview Kanye got personal. But then again, when does he not get really personal? When does he not put all of himself out there? That’s his M.O., and because of it, he’s always on the defense, never able to take a joke.

After Kanye’s attack, Kimmel launched a few tweets of his own, which were nothing short of hilarious. These include “if it’s not too much trouble @kanyewest, would you mind using @jimmykimmel ? Thanks” and “I know! , right?! RT @kanyewest ARAH SILVERMAN IS A THOUSAND TIMES FUNNIER THAN YOU AND THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS IT!!!”

He also addressed Kanye’s Twitter rant on his show the next day, saying, “Finally, I’m in a rap feud. I always wanted to be in a rap feud.”

Like a good comedian does, Kimmel spun the feud into comedic gold. However, many are speculating that this is all a prank, as Kimmel has executed some pretty elaborate pranks recently. Although he “promised” on Twitter that this was not a hoax, we’ll just have to wait and see. To be honest, any opportunity to hear nuggets of craziness/awesomeness come out of Kanye’s mouth is a welcome one.
