Poor, Joaquin Phoenix, Joker Movie Script Rewritten Daily

JOKER SCRIPT WAS MORE FLUID THAN NIAGARA FALLS

So you don’t have to be a Marvel or DC comics fan to be at least a little excited about the new movie, Joker.  I certainly am.  Excited, that is.  It’s a standalone movie about Batman’s brilliantly monstrous nemesis.  But this time the giggling murder gigolo will be played by the pretty and talented Joaquin Phoenix.  But now I’m maybe just a little bit concerned with some of the latest news.  Concerned, but not terribly vexed, you know?  Todd Philips directed this latest twist , but evidently all was not well during shooting.  Like, the script wasn’t a script.  They rewrote the whole goddamn thing while they were shooting.

JOAQUIN PHOENIX IS SUPPOSED TO BE AMAZING, BUT WILL IT STILL WORK?

Well, at least that’s the word after co-star Zazie Beetz gave a recent interview.  So I’m concerned, to say the least.  There are warehouses full of incendiary film garbage.  Why?  Because those films were essentially tripe on tape.  Because they had no central idea, they had no real script!  When a movie is underway and the money is getting spent, the idea is you have to finish it, no matter what.  But why? Because the money keeps getting spent.  But that’s like 30 writers writing a book while the reader is only a page behind.  It’s not a good situation.

But Zazie put a positive delivery on the thud of her disturbing news.  She said, “The script was great. We rewrote the whole thing while we were shooting it.  Literally, write the scene for the night and then do it. During hair and makeup we’d memorize those lines and then do them and then we’d reshoot that three weeks later.”  So we’ll just have to see.  Sometimes, not often mind you, but sometimes movies shot like this work.  Think of the first Iron Man movie.  It worked.  But that is NOT the norm.  And the Joker is NOT your normal character.  Joaquin Phoenix is brilliant, but you still need good writing.
