Jeff Daniels Gets the Nod In Name For New Tarantula Killing Worm

SCIENTISTS NAME TARANTULA KILLING WORM AFTER NO RESEMBLANCE JEFF DANIELS

Being a celebrity is fraught with all sorts of weirdness.  Well, maybe not just a celebrity, but a movie star!  And Jeff Daniels is definitely a movie star, a tv star.  The fact that you already have name recognition testifies to that.  You see his name and think of a particularly amazing scene with him going off about American transcendence.  Or at the other end of the performance spectrum, you think of him doing and saying any number of things in a fur covered truck sitting next to Jim Carrey.  And now?  Now you get to think of Jeff Daniels as a Tarantula Killing Worm?

WHY DID GEEK SCIENTISTS NAME IT AFTER JEFF DANIELS?  BECAUSE OF ARACHNOPHOBIA ROLE!

Well, I’m sure this wasn’t ever on the actor’s radar as a career milestone, that’s for sure.  Scientists recently discovered the new species of tarantula killing worm just a few years ago.  And one of the things that happens with new species is that we have to come up with names for them.  And, well, the parasitologists who got the chance to choose the name are a bit geeky.  Shocking, right?  And they of course remember the movie, Arachnophobia.  And yes, Jeff Daniels was in it!  I’m a geek, and I can barely remember the movie, myself.

JEFF DANIELS RELIEVED IT’S NOT BECAUSE THE WORMS BEAR HIM ANY RESEMBLANCE

So why is there now a tarantula killing worm named after Jeff Daniels?  Well, because his character in the movie killed spiders.  Like, a lot of spiders.  So now, there is a new species (pending review) with the name Tarantobelus jeffdanielsi , in the currently monotypic genus Tarantobelus.  Daniels, after an initial concern that he looked like the worm, said, “-in Hollywood, you haven’t really made it until you’ve been recognized by those in the field of parasitology.”
