JEFF BEZOS DONATES $2 BILLION TO CHARITY AND IT’S A JOKE
Everybody knows Amazon. The retail behemoth is both a blessing and a curse, depending on your basic sense of history and economics. Everybody has at least heard the name Jeff Bezos, though they may not know that he is the CEO of Amazon itself. But the name, for most, at least rings with the sense of big wealth. But he’s actually the richest person in America. Recently, Bezos made news with his very public announcement of a $2 billion charity donation. So you’re supposed to be impressed. Bezos wants you to be. But don’t be. Really. He’s just buying a good image. But for him, it’s pennies on the dollar.

DON’T BE IMPRESSED WITH CAPITALIST OVERLORD BUYING GOOD PRESS
Bezos is worth, personally, $163 billion. So his $2 billion dollar charity donation represents 1.2% of his net worth. And no, this isn’t some potshot math nor is it a cheap shot. Have you heard of the Giving Pledge? Bezos hasn’t signed it. But the other billionaires who have signed it have donated TEN times as much as Bezos, even though he has far more money than they do. Plus, Bezos is a miser employer. Amazon employees work in dangerous work conditions and have appallingly low pay. Amazon has been rife with labor issues every single year the last decade. He’s anti-union to maintain this. He bullies local municipalities into tax incentives for Amazon. He’s an opportunist who always wants more. But that means we all have less. And then less again. That’s the Amazon world.

BEZOS IS A CYNICAL OPERATOR WHO MEASURES LOW FOR EVERYONE ELSE
He’s just NOT a philanthropist. So don’t be impressed with that $2 billion figure. He’s a market and capital predator and will do all he can to expand his exclusive influence. That charitable donation is merely a marketing ploy, a way to hide behind a curtain. The median net worth in the average American household is a little over 97 grand. The average donation of those households is almost $1,200. That lines up pretty much precisely with 1.2%. Bezos did the math. So don’t be impressed. It’s incredibly cynical. 1.2% of the average household’s yearly income is valuable money to those families, every year. Those families aren’t buying good marketing. They’re donating. But Jeff Bezos is always cynically strategic. Not impressed.
