Sleazy Idaho Potato Farm Town Rife with Game of Thrones Names

IDAHO TOWN TO SPORT GEEKY GAMES OF THRONES STREET NAMES

GOT fans are serious fans.  GOT of course, meaning Games of Thrones.  Belfast, Ireland may be getting some competition for GOT tourism soon.  But it’s not where you would expect!  It’s in Idaho.  Yes, you can find a potato or three in both locations.  But so can Game of Thrones!  How could this be?  Well, one woman has made it her mission to get as many streets named after GOT characters as she can.  The woman works with B&A Engineers.  Her name is Jannell Hall.  How can this be?  Well, there’s the small town of Kuna, which is about 20 miles south and west of Boise.  The Silver Trail subdivision there is the site of a large development project.  So far, there are two streets already zoned with GOT names.  They’re Baratheon Avenue and Rickon Street.  Thanks, Jannell!

RURAL POTATO FARMERS HAVE NO IDEA WHAT’S COMING, AND IT’S NOT WINTER

Jannell has done this sort of work for over 17 years.  But this is the first time that a developer has given her “carte blanche” to name all the streets!  It’s all up to her.  So what did Jannell do?  She entered names of characters from every show that made her nerdy heart happy.  And GOT is way up on that list.  Jannell assumed some or all would be rejected because, well, because.  But there’s another GOT fan on the street naming committee itself.  That’s quite the inside play.  How very Lannister of them!  Or would that be the Westerosi Banks?  Anyway, it’s a fun development, as it were.

IF YOU BUILD IT, NERDY GEEKS WILL COME

Jannell related the experience so far.  “In this one I’ve got Game of Thrones, Firefly, I’ve even thrown my son and my husband’s names in there.   Basically I’m like, ‘Okay I’m a geek, I have a lot of fandom, [and] Game of Thrones is unique enough and big enough.’”  So far, she has submitted more than 17 street name requests from GOT.  Some of the other submissions were Baelish, Oberyn and Lannister.  They didn’t make the cut.  But not because they are GOT, because they sound too much like already existing streets.  The same was also true for Drogo.  But still alive in the naming hat are Tyrion, Sansa, Podrick, Hodor and Arya.  One street is also up for grabs between Jorah and Greyjoy.

WILL THE GOT BOOKS BE FINISHED BEFORE IDAHO TOWN?

But who knows what will happen by the time the project is done in a few years?  The area is a small, rural community of Idaho potato farmers.  They might have no idea what these names are.  But if they’re still there, you bet there will be some tourist making the drive just for some serious GOT Midwest selfies.
