HEAD OF WORLD’S LARGEST HOUSEHOLD DIES, LEAVING BEHIND 39 WIDOWS, 94 KIDS
So this wasn’t a title I would ever have thought about trying to hold. Having the most wives, kids and single family in the world. But Ziona Chana held the title for years. He just died at the age of 76. He and his massive family lived, together, in east India. So how big was this largest household in the world? Oh, only 167 family members. Just let that number sink in for a while. Oh, and let’s not forget how many wives this head of household had: 39. And kids? Well, just a few of those as well, numbering 94. But with his death, Chana has left them all behind. Now, that’s a lot of widows, seriously.
HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD ALSO HEAD OF LARGE POLYGAMOUS CHRISTIAN SECT, CHANA
So as you might imagine, Chana was a polygamist with all those wives. But he was also the leader of a local Christian sect, with polygamy as a central tenet. Now, that’s some Old Testament right there kept literal in the modern times. So how does a family household that large all live together? Well, in their own 4-story, pink building in Mizoram, India, of course. A building with roughly 100 rooms for an infinite history of internal play dates. Well, and dates of other kinds, of course. That’s what polygamy is all about. The Christian polygamous sect has the name Chana, of course. Ziona’s father founded it back in 1942. Evidently, hundreds of families count themselves as members. That’s even more wives!
HOUSEHOLD HEAD’S FIRST MARRIAGE AT 17, ADDED TEN MORE IN A SINGLE YEAR
Ziona married his first wife when he was only 17 years old. Before he died, he claimed to have married ten different women within just one year. That’s a lot of receptions, right? But I for one never want to have even one more wife. But wives, plural? One is enough! And kids? Well, who knows? To me, it’s a bit much. But Chana had some serious competition in Canada, with the head of a Mormon sect, Winston Blackmore, with roughly 150 children. Sure, that’s a bigger number than Chana’s. But Chana also had 33 grandchildren. Just imagine the Christmas shopping list! Now, also imagine executing that will.
