Hayden Panettiere and her boxer boyfriend Wladimir Klitschko may be tying the knot, as she was seen with a huge diamond on her finger at LAX on Tuesday. As one of the oddest couples in Hollywood, this pair has always fascinated me, namely because what do they have to talk about???
Panettiere and Klitschko have been dating on and off since 2009, calling it quits in 2011 due to distance issues and reuniting earlier this year with a very public taco date. Rumors of an engagement were already swirling in April when Us Weekly reported that they were headed for wedded bliss, but the petite star shot them down in May when she showed off her bare ring finger at the Billboard Music Awards.
Now it’s a little harder to deny when she’s flashing a giant rock on her ring finger at Hollywood’s hottest celebrity-sighting spot, LAX. I mean, come on. LAX is more buzzing than The Ivy in terms of paparazzi presence. If a celebrity wanted to make an announcement, he can skip the call to his publicist and just go straight to the baggage claim at LAX, where TMZ will be waiting with cameras and recorders. Thus, Panettiere’s latest jewelry display at LAX might just be a subtle announcement to the world. But again, are these two real? Do they have anything in common? Who are these people?
Perennial blonde Panettiere, 23, currently stars on the hit ABC show Nashville and has been a Young Hollywood favorite since her days as a cheerleader on Heroes. She’s known for her perky personality and California-girl vibe, which was perfectly reflected in her dating former Laguna Beach star Stephen Colletti. Also apropos was her two-year relationship with Heroes costar Milo Ventimiglia.

Klitschko, 37, is a Ukrainian professional heavyweight boxer who holds several championship titles and an Olympic gold medal. Born in Soviet Kazakhstan, Klitschko has basically revolved his life around boxing, boxing, and nothing but boxing.
In other words, if these two input all their info into the same dating site, they’d probably come out to be a -4% match.
In addition to interests and hobbies, these two could not be more physically mismatched. Panettiere, who is practically a child at 5’2”, and Klitschko, who is a Redwood at 6’6”, are basically the celebrity couple version of Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger in Twins. Personally, I do not find this hot. I find it jarring and confusing on the eyes. And now they might be walking — struggling to keep the same pace — down the aisle together.

But you know what? When all is said and done, they seem to be genuinely in love. And if they can be in love despite all their differences and the odds against them, then maybe that’s a beautiful thing. Maybe it’s their differences that make them so perfect for each other.
