THIS HOLIDAY SEASON, MAYBE AVOID RENTING A CAR FROM HERTZ LIKE IT’S THE PLAGUE
As many of us wake up to the various and related trauma of turkey hangover, it inevitably means we are now in the full swing of the holiday season. Because today is Black Friday, a day that I make sure to stay in as much as possible for to avoid traffic and territorially obsessed shoppers. But it’s also the day I and maybe you start hunting virtually for Christmas gifts deals, and Christmas planning in general. And as much as a lot of people don’t want to think about any more travel after this week’s weather, we kind of need to lock in our travel deals before they’re gone. But with what I’m about to explain below, you won’t want to use Hertz, maybe the worst car rental service anywhere.

HERTZ FALSELY ACCUED CUSTOMERS OF THEFT, EXTORTED MONEY FROM TRAPPED CUSTOMERS
Why would I say this? Because if you absorb some basic public knowledge from recent years it’s hard to think of Hertz positively. There is clearly a problem in the organization their PR folks can’t keep up with. But how can you positively spin the fact that your company falsely accused not one, not two, but 230 customers of car theft? Because Hertz did that in 2022. And some of those customers (innocent customers) faced arrest and even jail. We also know that they have the bad habit of overselling their inventory and then essentially extort more money from committed, trapped customers.

AND HERTZ EVEN CHARGED GAS FEES TO CUSTOMERS WHO RENTED TESLAS
And yes, that’s amazingly ugly Hertz history. Recent history. I mean, who thinks they can get away from charging gas fees to customers who rent….. Teslas? Hertz. And now there’s another customer who Hertz threatened to arrest when he refused to let them charge his credit card an extra $10,000 for driving his rental 25,000 miles. And I don’t blame him, as his contract included unlimited miles. When the customer posted his experience on TikTok, it forced Hertz to apologize. Well, if an apology just means they promise not to charge you $10,000 for not violating your contract.
So as you make the rest of your holiday plans, if you need a rental car, maybe consider any other vendor besides Hertz. Otherwise, they’ll really never clean up their act.
