WOMAN IN HAWAII SOMEHOW SURVIVES MORE THAN TWO WEEKS, INJURED IN A REMOTE FOREST

The missing woman was Amanda Eller.  She was missing for more than two weeks.  But a rescue team finally found her, injured, in the Makawao Forest Reserve on Maui island.  Eller is a physical therapist who lives in the town of Haiku, also in Maui.  She first went missing back on May 8th.  Authorities found her Toyota RAV4 in the reserve’s parking lot.  Both her phone and wallet were in the car.  This is the kind of situation that is agonizing for family and friends.  But fortunately, this story has a happy ending.

SEARCH TEAM FINALLY FOUND HER, SEARCHING IN A HELICOPTER

So there was a search team looking for her, flying around the area in a helicopter.  The three searchers were Javier Cantellops, Chris Berquist and Troy Helmers.  Berquist was instantly certain they had found her when they saw a woman far below.  He told local media, “I’ve been looking at pictures of that girl 100 times a day. It was no mistake that it was her.  We were freaking out. We were trying not to trip over ourselves trying to get to her too fast.”  Berquist also said he was proud to have found her in the remote forest. He said, “We found somebody’s daughter — by doing it right, by not giving up.”

MISSING WOMAN HAD A BROKEN LEG, INJURIES TO BOTH ANKLES

So far, we have no idea how the injured woman managed to survive over two weeks alone in the remote, wild forest.  Eller’s mother reported that he daughter had a broken leg and injuries to both ankles.  More than 100 volunteers along with Fire rescue crews intensely searched on land and from the air.  They used ultra-modern GPS mapping technology and hiking dogs.  Well, and a helicopter.  The Find Amanda Facebook page now includes a post which reads, “She got lost and was stuck and slightly injured in the forest — way, way out. Somewhere way far above Twin Falls. Between two waterfalls, down a deep ravine in a creek bed.”
