NEW GERBER SPOKESBABY WITH DOWNS SYNDROME IS AMAZING
The Gerber baby is an iconic symbol of adorableness. So every year Gerber has a cute baby event called the Gerber Baby Photo Contest. And this year an adorable baby who happens to have Downs Syndrome won the contest. But this is huge for the Downs Syndrome community as well as for Special Needs families. There is still a lot of stigma surrounding anyone who is not typically developing. So Gerber is not only honoring the adorable one-year-old Lucas form Dalton, Georgia. This spokesbaby and his family will be helping all families of children with developmental disabilities by turning the light brighter and showing that all people deserve adoration and love. So it’s a great time to be a Gerber fan.
FIRST GERBER BABY CONTEST WAS IN 1928, THIS YEAR FIRST SPECIAL NEEDS WINNER
The Gerber baby contest is for children under the age of 4. But this is Gerber’s first special needs baby with Downs. Participants can’t submit any professional photos. None of the kids can have an agent or talent manager, either. The contest is only open in the fifty Unites States and Washington DC. But Gerber offers a separate International Baby Contest for everywhere else. You can enter only one picture of your child in the contest where they have the opportunity to become a spokesbaby. The grand prize in 2015 had an estimated value of $67,000. There are many categories and each prize is worth about $4,250. The original Gerber baby contest was back in 1928, which is when judges chose the original Gerber baby. That was 90 years ago! So it’s great to finally have the first special needs Gerber Baby.
LUCAS PICKED OUT OF 140,000 BABIES AND PARENTS WON $50,000
So Gerber judges picked Lucas out of 140,00 other babies. But this spokesbaby will be representing the Gerber baby brand this year. His infectious smile and adorable expressions won the Gerber company’s hearts this year. The president and CEO of Gerber, Bill Partyka, explained, “Every year, we choose the baby who best exemplifies Gerber’s longstanding heritage of recognizing that every baby is a Gerber baby, and this year, Lucas is the perfect fit.” The prize allotted to Lucas’ parents is $50,000 this year. Lucas’s parents are overjoyed he is this year’s Gerber Baby. They will have the chance to represent the special needs community. For the first time ever!
So let’s hope that Gerber fans notice the new face of Lucas and learn more about special needs children and their families. It’s the best way for communities to grow! So let’s thank Gerber, which has stood the test of time. Way to go, Gerber!
