Genealogy Study, Prophet Mohammed Forebear of Elizabeth II

QUEEN ELIZABETH II RELATED TO THE PROPHET MOHAMMED

If you go far back enough, you’ll likely find that you are a descendent of royalty.  Somewhere.  Somewhen.  But, of course, that’s if you have enough information to trace your genealogy in the first place.  But what about if you are already royalty?  What if you are the world’s longest living royal monarch?  If you’re at all a royals junkie, you already know I’m talking about Elizabeth II, the queen of England.  But royalty has other, deeper roots.  A Moroccan newspaper has reported on a study that says Queen Elizabeth is a descendant of the Prophet Mohammed.  How’s that for a living history?

BURKE’S PEERAGE ORIGINALLY FOUND THIS BACK IN 1986

According to the study, the Queen’s bloodline is connected to the Prophet Mohammed’s daughter, Fatima.  The Queen’s forebears were also descended from a Muslim princess who is recorded as having converted to Christianity.  All of these findings were first reported by a British authority who specialized in the pedigrees of royalty.  That was back in 1986.  The authority was Burke’s Peerage.  But according to the Moroccan newspaper, researchers pored over 43 generations of the Queen’s family.  That’s how genealogists connected the queen to the prophet.  The Muslim princess who converted was Zaida.  She fled her hometown of Seville way back in the 11th Century.  She was the 4th wife of King Al-Mu’tamid ibn Abbad.  Their son, Sancho, had a descendant who married the Earl of Cambridge, also in the 11th Century.

But other details are also interesting history.  The study also claims that the royal bloodline goes thru the Earl of Cambridge back in the 1300’s.  Then it tracks across then Medieval Muslim Spain all the way to Fatima, Mohammed’s daughter.  But as seems to always be the case, some historians don’t agree.  Yet records of genealogy from early-medieval Spain confirm the findings.  So far, the former grand mufti of Egypt, Ali Gomaa, has endorsed the findings.  But this isn’t really new news!  Back in 1986, Burke’s publishing director wrote a letter to Prime Minister Thatcher. “It is little known by the British people that the blood of Mohammed flows in the veins of the queen. However, all Moslem religious leaders are proud of this fact,” he wrote in the letter.

Sometimes history is really interesting!  But this is clearly controversial for some.  Queen Elizabeth II comes from deeper history than we knew.
