Flint, Michigan Sold Police Academy to Become Marijuana Grower

FLINT, MICHIGAN POLICE ACADEMY TO BECOME IRONIC MARIJUANA GROW FACILITY

So Flint, Michigan is in the news again.  But for once, I really don’t mind at all.  No, this has nothing really to do with water, poison, and dirty racist politics.  This time, it’s about legal drugs.  Yes!  We’re talking about marijuana again.  Now that Mary Jane is no longer politically typhoid, all sorts of amazing things are happening.  Just like this.  The former flint police academy will have a totally new purpose moving forward.  The city just sold it to a cannabis company with will turn it into a marijuana grower facility.  No, you read that right.

FLINT CITY COUNCIL APPROVED POLICE ACADEMY SALE TO GROWER, BUT ONLY BARELY

But boy, did this almost not happen.  Because a lot of folks in government tend to not let go of stigmatic history, like ever.  The Flint City Council voted on the police academy sale last month, and it was a squeaker.  They only approved the sale by a 5-4 vote!  But to make things kind of funny, the property had only been on the market for a week and got two offers.  And of course, both offers were from cannabis companies.  One bid was ludicrous, at only $20,000.  The other was more realistic, at $500,000, from Evergrow.

RELIC OF MINOR DRUG OFFENSE ENFORCEMENT FACTORY NOW A SYMBOL OF THE MARY JANE FUTURE

So I’m all for this.  Consider the huge, glaring irony here.  A Flint police academy that graduated generations of police they trained to arrest people for minor drug offenses, mostly people of color, will now actually grow the main drug they arrested people for.  And, let’s not forget, Michigan has had a 3 strikes law since 2012.  In other words, even minor drug offenses could get people a minimum of 25 years in prison.  But now, a historic relic of that enforcement will be a place where people grow the very (innocuous, all-natural) drug that used to put people behind bars!

Now might be a good time to find some rolling paper and watch a classic movie.  I’m thinking Police Academy.
