Fashion Giant, Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld Passed Away

HIGH FASHION DESIGNER GIANT, KARL LAGERFELD PASSED AWAY AT 85

So you don’t have to know much about high fashion to know the name Karl Lagerfeld.  But you might even know what he looks like after 5 decades of his dominating high fashion.  He sported a trademark ponytail and wore starched collars with dark, intimidating glasses.  But the fashion designer giant passed away at the age of 85.  Lagerfeld reveled in being an enigma till the day he died.  Even his true age was unknown, or at least confused by the man himself.

ENIGMATIC LAGERFELD LIKED TO KEEP PEOPLE GUESSING TILL THE DAY HE DIED

So there were reports that he had two different birth certificates from Germany.  One was from 1933, the other from 1938.  His assistant just this year said Lagerfeld liked “to scramble the tracks on his year of birth.”  So Lagerfeld liked to keep people guessing about everything.  But especially about what he might do next.  So it was Chanel that confirmed Karl Lagerfeld died earlier this week on Tuesday.  He had been looking more and more frail in recent years.  But just last month, he did not appear to take a bow at Chanel’s couture show in Paris, France. Now, we know why.

Chanel’s released statement said Karl Lagerfeld was “An extraordinary creative individual, Lagerfeld reinvented the brand’s codes created by Gabrielle Chanel: the Chanel jacket and suit, the little black dress, the precious tweeds, the two-tone shoes, the quilted handbags, the pearls and costume jewelry.  Thanks to his creative genius, generosity and exceptional intuition, Karl Lagerfeld was ahead of his time, which widely contributed to the House of Chanel’s success throughout the world,” the brand’s CEO Alain Wertheimer said. “Today, not only have I lost a friend, but we have all lost an extraordinary creative mind to whom I gave carte blanche in the early 1980s to reinvent the brand.”
