Famke Janssen Lives Out Our Worst Nightmare

In a report that sounds like the plot line of a creepy thriller starring Michael Pitt, actress Famke Janssen came home to find a mysterious gift waiting for her in her bedroom, a book titled The Lonely Doll. (Shiver.)

Best known for her role as Jean Grey in the X-Men franchise, Janssen came back to her Greenwich Village penthouse around 8:10 p.m. on Saturday and noticed something out of place in her bedroom.

“She walked into her bedroom and noticed a children’s book standing on the shelf beside her bed,” a law enforcement source said. Not only does she not own the book, but she also doesn’t own any children.

Janssen immediately called the police, who came to investigate the situation, but did not find any signs of forced entry or any stolen property. Could it have been an ex-boyfriend or family member playing a prank? Apparently not, since Janssen is the only person with access to her apartment. Cue the Twilight Zone theme song.

Detectives are still studying surveillance footage from the lobby for any signs of the sick bastard. The actress told them that she had been in and out of her apartment all day since 7:30 a.m., running errands, and apparently being watched. How else could the perp have known when it was clear to go in?

Perhaps what is most disturbing is the choice of publication left for Janssen. The Lonely Doll, written in the 1950s by Dare Wright, tells the creepy story of a doll named Edith who had no one to play with. Edith eventually befriends two teddy bears who vow to never leave her alone. Vow to never leave her alone. Janssen may want to consider hiring security detail for a little while. Hugh Jackman, are you listening?

If this is the case of a stalker with a wilder-than-usual imagination, at least Janssen is not alone. Jodie Foster, David Letterman, Madonna, and Uma Thurman are just a few stars who have had scary encounters with stalkers. But it’s the exceptionally inventive or subtle ones that really give me the creeps.

Nicolas Cage was awoken at 2 in the morning by a naked man wearing his leather jacket and eating a Fudgesicle in front of his bed, while his 2-year-old was in another room. It’s only funny because it didn’t happen to you, but I bet if you woke up to someone dripping fake chocolate onto your sheets, you wouldn’t be laughing.

One celebrity who was targeted by a stalker of the stealth variety was Pamela Anderson, who started to notice bread, clothing, and other random items go missing in her house. It turns out that a woman had been living in her guest room for days. I don’t know why, but the subtler they are, the more creeped out I feel.

Hopefully, Janssen is able to nip this intruder issue in the bud, because nobody — least of all her — wants to find out what else the weirdo is capable of. Right now, since nothing was stolen, the police are investigating it as a break-in, and we hope that’s where this creepy story ends.
